Ah! I'm so excited! We've kept this quiet for awhile now, but some time ago I was approached by Ironfur, a uniquely-skilled crafter here in the furry community who wanted to build REAL metal collars, and he's been working his butt off for several months now to do JUST that.
The final result are these BEAUTIFUL, lightweight, shiny collars! They have a hidden hinge along the L seam, and wear very comfortably. And if you'd like to see one in person, or OWN one. . . you now can :D
We're going to have these at Further Confusion, in the Dealer's Den! I'll have a VERY limited supply of them, so if you want one and you want to be sure you get the right size, you'll need to hit my table early. As you can see, we have three sizes. . . small and medium for humans, and the huge ones there are for fursuiters.
AmonRL will be rocking one, and I'll have one on display on the table at all times. Come by and have a look!

Eventually, I'm hoping so! These are works of art, though, and take awhile to produce, so I'd have to take orders for them on a very limited basis
Well I shall eagerly await for an opening to get one of these lovelies made.
i will also be waiting for online orders, as going to cons is impossible for me at the moment
Me too! I would love to have one! I want to know the minute they go on for online sales!
I wish I could make it to FC JUST for this, but as it stands I'm going to eagerly await the day they are available online!
there are always online auctions. that could work at the rate of production. just announce when they come up now and then.
I agree with this.^
I hope the chance(s) will be given to order these online.
I would love to own one either for show or to wear :)
they are beautiful.

I'll be waiting for an online purchase as well.
These are gorgeous!!!
These are gorgeous!!!
Is there any way some one could get an x-small? I have a very thin neck.
just let me know you neck circumference, the small ones are 42.2cm (16.6in) circumference they fit me perfectly (14.6in neck) but I can pretty much make these any size. I still want to experiment and try a few things before I start commissions.
and is there anyway to get the screws flat head and inset so my hair doesn't get ripped out by them ^_^;
The screws are flat head and inset, unless you mean the screws for the nameplate?
If/when they become available online, (hopefully the latter) about how much do you think shipping would be?
It depends, they are not that heavy, just need to figure out what box they will fit in.
Ya, that would work for the smaller ones, couldn't find an envelope big enough for the fursuit version.
I too am interested in eeing what other ones are possible and seeing Iron Fur's selection of anything he can cast/forge/form in metal. Its not often to see someone who works with steel.
We're thinking the price needs to be somewhere around $100, just strictly based on the materials and crafting cost alone
Ouchies. Well, I'll have to wait for online ordering since I'm not going to FC. :x
damn...that's actually a very reasonable price considering the time and effort going into them ^^
wow, not bad considering how beautiful they are. any time frame for online orders?
no clue, depends primarily on how many the crafter is willing to make and how much time he'll need to make them :)
Honestly I have contacts from my time overseas, I could mass produce these pretty quick but I want to experiment with the design a bit more.
oh my gosh these are beautiful! I wish i was going to FC so i could get one >.<
I would definitely buy one, no matter how much it costs..<3 these are beautiful
Oh wow, I Love that. Yeah, I don't think the price matters, I would pay what it costs for one.
It's a shame I'm not attending FC, that turned out beautifully!! Can't wait to see how it looks on Anon though!!
Nice!! Those are beautifully crafted - and neat to have the tiny hidden hinge. I bet these are gonna sell REAL well.
Glad you noticed, The original prototype didn't have a hinge, just three interlocking plates. I was worried the hinge would pinch but with the rounded edges it doesn't at all.
Slick! I don't think you'll have any problem unloading those; I can see them being especially popular for fursuits. Best of luck!
What is the symbol on the plate? And what are the dimensions of these incredible pieces?
-TGU.
-TGU.
the symbol on them is the House symbol for The Crimson Divine, the brothel Amon works at in Red Lantern
Ah. Of course! So do we know the actual dimentions? I would love to get a couple for my mate and myself. Will probably have to get someone to buy them for me, since I won't be at the con.
Thanks!

Thanks!

Currently the sizes are:
Small 42.2cm (Circumference)
Medium 46.5cm (Circumference)
Large 57.8cm (Circumference)
Fursuit 74cm (Circumference)
All are 22mm tall and all but the fursuit collar are 8.5mm thick, fursuit collar is 12mm thick.
Find I need at least 5cm circumference clearance but not much more for a comfortable fit.

ya, 'bout an hour of just polishing each. Have to alternate between a few at a time, they get hot!
I have a ring I made from the inner race of a spherical bearing (salvaged from when someone's car hit someone else's car -- not mine, thankfully) and it does polish up decently with a final application of 2000 grit sandpaper. But I agree -- a lot of hot metal floating around.
i dont even like collars and i think thats pretty awesome XD
if i catch you at another convention i may just nab one ^^

Those look like they are wonderfully crafted! Usually it seems, when folks try to recreate something like this, the result is not so fantastic. But these are amazingly well done! Kudos all the way around.
They're gorgeous. Kudos for the craftsman!
Unfortunately, I seriously doubt you'll have one to fit me, having an 18" neck. Unless I went with a fursuit version, which would likely look ridiculous.

Yeah, but then we run into the other problem. Filthy lucre, greenbacks, moolah, whatever you want to call it, I don't have enough. <sigh>
I have already traded one for a tail and another for a hotel room for two nights, barter system who knows?
UGHHHHHHHH.
I wish I could order one online now! ;.;
they're so gorgeous! it must be so exciting having one of your creations come to life like that! <3

Ive seen them in person and I can say ironfur did an impeccable job! They are wonderfully light and so smooth!
I've often wondered what happened to the other ones, I think I remember you saying that you'd planned on 69 of them, but it stopped well short of that. Shame also, I never got one... I've got to say though these look fantastic! And totally real, much more than the others did! I do not want to miss out on one of these.

Yours by far outshine these in my honest option, and clearly look more authentic to the world Rukis has created. I greatly admire what you've done!

Ahhh thanks for the link, they were made from leather. I have worn mine in the shower for weeks, still as shiny as the day I finished it, leather doesn't like to get wet as much. I kinda like the soft pinging sound the water makes when it hits the collar.
If I really wanted to go authentic I could have made these from steel, but considering weight and issues with rust, aluminium is a much more comfortable metal to wear. Could also have made one from bronze but heavy and very $$$.
Outshines.. heh.

I'd honestly be interested in seeing an iron one (my guess would be that's what they would of been made of) but I could only guess how much it would weigh! And the rust also....
Probably steel, I figure the technology available in the red lantern to be around the 1400's (my guess) and steel has been around much longer than that. They wouldn't have stainless or Aluminium for another 400 years. Then again this is an alternate universe who knows what alloys would be available.
Ah, I was curious what they were made out of, but mostly because I'm allergic to nickel, and got sufficiently bad rashes just from the D-ring of an otherwise nonmetallic hemp collar that I'm now literally phobic of touching anything that even looks metal. Even though I know there are several entire industries devoted to metal people can actually wear, and asking if it's nickel is probably like walking into a high-end top-shelf wine snob place and asking if they have Thunderbird. The thing about phobias is they're not necessarily rational. :D Anyway.
oh man I'd love one of these! hope they do come to online orders :D
These look amazing! If I was going to FC this month I would pick one up.
Wow... those look absolutely gorgeous... something of that quality could appear in a Red Lantern film... *swoons*
More Technically T6 6061 Aluminum polished to a mirror shine, all fasteners are stainless steel, logo plates are also stainless.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Do you think you will have more for Anthrocon2014?
But I think these are beautifully crafted.

Hinged on one side, Stainless 6-32 fastener on the overlapping section. Working on a push button release using magnets.
Oh goodness, I'm not going to FC but these Rw beautiful I want one so badly
I bought one of your original ones and have wanted to transfer the tag to a metal collar like that for some time now! Awesome to see that you're doing that. I'll have to look into getting one at some point in the future if you do online sales.
Waaaaaaaaaaaant. Damn. Too bad I can't make it to FC! Those look fantastic!
are you attending any of the southern cons? like Texas Furry Fiesta? if so, will you have a few there?
I've always wanted Amon's collar to become a real thing.
Didn't think it would actually happen!
It's lovely, unfortunately I'd have to wait for the online ones.

I'll have to bring by some tea.
If you're in the Dealer's Den, you won't be able to attend the Titanium Tea at FC.

OMG! I want one. I can't go to Further Confusion, though! I eagerly await these collars to become orderable on line.
I want one of them so badly.. But I can never go to a con. x.x So gorgeous.
Not yet, I have the supplies to anodize different colors, also what to try a harder chrome coating, just need time.
That all sounds full of win. I hope you make enough profit that you'll be able to do more or atleast some made to order.
Do you have plans to do any stainless rings (if you wok with stainless steel) in the necklace design? (Same look as necklace but solid?)

Stainless would be tricky, and triple the weight. I may prototype a thinner design in Aluminum then send to a CNC shop to get cut from stainless, but it would probably be at least double the $.
Hmm true atleast it's not tungsten...lol
I wouldn't do the necklaces on stainless but rings (I wouldn't think) wouldn't be double $. (or would they?) I think aluminum is more suited for necklaces bc of the lightness of it. I'm not sure about aluminum rings...I've never herd of em and I'd be afraid to ware em.

I actually know someone that has an aluminum ring, he has worn it for years. Material cost isn't as much of a factor at that scale so probably not double. Tungsten would be an interesting material choice
I have a tungsten ring with diamond cut pattern and it scratched up the back of my ipod like crazy without me noticing. :( but I LOVE tungsten makes amazing rings that hardly ever get scratched.
For the aluminum ring I'd worry it'd dent or corrode with excessive ware?
For the aluminum ring I'd worry it'd dent or corrode with excessive ware?
It wore down faster (was also a thicker ring) but it's about the same hardness as a gold ring. One thing to watch out for with tungsten rings they can't cut them off if your finger swells, they amputate your finger Have a friend who works at the hospital, tells me they amputate 2-3 a year due to this.
I've herd that before actually...which is why I try to get a size bigger in em or just mess with the ring from time to time to make sure it moves.
I do hope these are a big hit to where you'd be able to make more necklaces and possibly put a sample batch of rings into works or do some for made to order.

T6 6061 Aluminum, logo plate is a 400 series stainless. All screws are stainless.
Are they locking? With like a small screw or something along those lines?
omg!! i want one so badly!! sadly i cant get one because i cant make the convention >n< if online orders are possible though gosh darnet im getting one! that is if i have enough money. :c and i only have cash >n< but uuugh im going to so get one if its possible! i just absolutely love the design and the craftsmanship of them. they look stunning! *sobs internally with excitement and depression that i don't have one at this very second while pawing at the screen*
I'm just gonna sit here in my snowy Canadian dorm room and drool over one more thing I will likely never own. Damn that looks beautiful.
Holy crap. *drools* Those are BEAUTIFUL. I'll totally be getting at least one of these in fursuit size, and maybe one in human size too. Of course, once they're available online, unless they're available at AC14 and I end up going.
oh my gosshh!
-,-

EVEER!!!

O,O
amazingly great job on these!
i really hope i could get one when and if online orders ever happen!
very beautiful!
Not really a matter of if but when, seems there is plenty of demand to satisfy
Wow, they're gorgeous! I'd fly to FC just for those if I could afford it! Well, count me in to buy one! I'd even pay extra for anodized... ;)
My 2 cents: I REALLY want one of these! I'll up one eventually, but can't make it to FC.
YAAAAY~ Voluntary sex slaves for the Crimson Divine!
In all seriousness, those collars look awsome.

HOLY...faints. WHY CAN'T I BE GOING TO FC????
Magnificent pieces!

Magnificent pieces!
and now I'm crying...
I know this is a fairly long-term question, but will they be available at Anthrocon as well?
Absolutely beautiful. I don't think I could pull off wearing something like that, but I would buy one just to own one. Just amazing
Heh first time I wore it out in public with scribblefox and gang, the sushi waiter commented on my nice necklace
Its kinda no fair that its always the usa Con that gets your surprise`s i so want one of thies
Are those little plates screwed on? Are they going to be customizeable? ^^
Omg i want one so bad i based my cat off of amon and his name is amarth as a play on words if anyone knows the band amon amarth lol
Argh, I didn't get the right white balance in that pic! Will take another while I still have them all here. Yes I can bring a few to Vancoufur but they can't have the Crimson Divine symbol, those are Rukis Exclusive ;)
May as well chain me to my lathe, looks like I will be building collar from now on 0.o
