Albion is a Tsukomagami;
When in object is owned and kept in good condition for a hundred years, it can sometimes use the energies expended on it, collect over time, to awaken. Al wasn't just kept, but loved and played with by generations of children. Patched when worn, and relied upon to chase away monsters, when Kaard awakened this teddy bear, it was overjoyed to be able to take on its duties more actively.
