I just thought I"d share pictures of my first pull from the bull horns I cast MONTHS ago. I stopped work on them abruptly when I experienced a chemical burn in the middle of their silicone casting.
Somewhere between the last homestead and this one, I lost one of the mold gloves and haven"t had the plaster gauze to create a new one. On top of one of those missing, when I pulled the second resin cast from the first silicone mold, it was DESTROYED because the silicone refused to remove itself from the resin. :/
I also need to sand down the seams on both horns and sculpt a little more on them before attempting another cast. The horns they were created from were VERY dirty and difficult to get a nice clean casting and I am hoping that working with the resin will prove to be more successful at some point in the near future.
Strangely enough, I"ve still been working with the same chemicals since I first tried to cast these and have had NO reactions since moving. It"s...really odd...
Anyway- teasers are where it"s at since I don"t have much more to share other than some RTF blanks and some super secret convention projects. >.< Enjoy, right?!
Update: 8/28/13-
I ended up visiting mordrude and attempting again to cast these horns with silicone. Sadly, that same weekend (a week ago now) I decided to pour a healthy shake of part B resin all over the right half of my body. I had loosened the cap after it was stuck tight, put the bottle down, and went to part A to shake it and pour what I needed. When I went to shake and open part B again, the cap flew off- and we had a GREAT TIME TOGETHER. This last experience with skin irritations and chemicals was far shorter than the last with these horns-- and from a different chemical. Yay- right?
Anyway, I am almost convinced that these horns are cursed and to throw them out as a project all together. However, I am a glutton for punishment and love to rise to the occasion when challenged. SO. Despite the NEW silicone mold tearing yet again, I am still going to give it another go. Who knows when. I have a jaw-set to sculpt and cast first for a UNICORN. Xb
