I don't know, when I see them, the urge to get a frying pan just appears X3
Haha. I've never had an urge to eat them. Uck. I have about 50 babies if you want some for frying?
Do they really make a hissing sound or are they just called that for some reason?
Yes, they do make a hissing sound. I have been hissed at tons of times by the large male and few times by the others. They force air through the breathing pores (spiracles) found on their abdomen, usually when being disturbed or fighting.

Wow, that's pretty wicked! Psssssft! It sounds like the cockroach is adjusting its hydraulics or something. =D
Normally, I am terrified of cockroaches. These guys aren't so bad and are quickly becoming part of my "critter family". I'm still a little wicked out about holding them longer than a few seconds, but I do try handling them before feeding time and I'm getting better about it. They are very interesting.
yeah they aren't the best for handllng, tough it seems the females are more calm than the males.
yay! Do you still have any babies up for grabs? My colony is getting low, I've had them for so long that I've had 3 die of old age recently :( They just won't breed for some reason!
