The Craunico, or Craun for short, is a very cheerful and caring species. They are more than happy to care for the young of any species.. other than its own. Their disposition leaves their children vulnerable, and they learn quickly how to share with larger beings with a conscious [mainly Humanoids and the highly evolved Fritter. more on Fritters later] making them feel guilt or responsibility towards caring for them. Many of the Craunico serve as nannies for Fritter children in exchange for a home and a steady supply of food, but these Craunico have in turned lost the poison of their barbed spines on their back from no longer needing it, and they have grown fatter.
Those that do not find a home live as the uppity forest nanny and will risk it's life to save orphans. Sometimes their nanny service grows to the point of a large comunity. But it is no peace maker, and cannot see very well.
A normal Craunico come in many colors, and can actually send a bright pulse of color across their feathfur plates to temporarily blind or stun attackers and other predators [given they aren't a Thrixon. More on them later]. As well as this, the Craun can fire the six poisonous barbs on its back, but once all six are gone the Craun dies, and the barbs can not grow back once shot. The poison in their barbs are not that strong to begin with, but it is a strong neurotoxin that distorts the influencee's vision and perception of color. If too much gets into the blood stream it can overpower and even fry the brains neuro-receptors. A single ounce is enough to potentially blind a human.

Although some of the well-known Craunico have been labeled to be notorious enough to steal unattended eggs and other egg-like shapes such as rocks and gems, this is not the case. These Craunico give themselves and the 43% of the rest a bad name..
