Been in the fur fandom for over 10 years now. (God I feel old...) Love the art and pretty much everything about it. I'm a stand-up philosopher in my spare time, and am currently working on a few books to be published. I believe heavily in the works of Ayn Rand.
My major projects right now are two novels, themed on Free Will vs Determinism, and Proper functions of government.
I've got about eighty billion other projects, ranging from my 'Rogue Dragon' series on here to working on a couple of sequels for movies that I love, starting a few small businesses, and other things.
Cripes, after looking at that list, I'm surprised I have time to breathe.

RIP Mr. Nimoy
9 years agoFor those of you who know me, you know that I have given up on keeping track of what's going on in the world. I don't look at the news, I don't listen to talk radio or even have it on period. I don't look at Fox, CNN, MSNBC, CSPAN, any of it. It mostly just pisses me off that the idiots on both sides of the aisle are doing whatever it is that they're doing, which means I don't sleep.
This also means, as a sort of side effect, that I generally have no clue what's going on in the world of entertainment. I just heard about the whole Kevin Costner best picture thing (since when did a biopic of Adam West get to be considered best picture material?) last night. That's also when I heard about Mr. Nimoy's passage.
I generally don't do the whole homage thing. It's intensely personal, and I generally feel that the personal is best kept... personal. I didn't post anything or give much of a comment at all about when Robin Williams died, or any of the other major celebrities that left us these last several years.
That having been said, I will dearly miss Mr. Nimoy. In an age where Snooki and her spiritual predecessor Anna Nicole Smith and all of the other graceless, talentless, tactless, brainless, heartless, wastes of carbon and oxygen are far, far too prevalent, Mr. Nimoy's breed is one that I will note the absence of.
His gentle, subtle touches, his earnest and intelligent performances, and his ability to play what amounted to a comedic straight-man to William Shatner's wild nature on his most well-known role are things that today's members of the entertainment industry can do far worse than learn from.
As an example, I recently was sat down to watch The Interview. A thoroughly 'meh' movie, as far as I'm concerned, with several funny moments, but mostly crass and crude humor, with just barely enough intelligence and social relevance to make it worthwhile. Honestly, if Kim Jong Un hadn't made such a damned fuss over it, it would probably have gone completely unnoticed for it's absolute mediocrity.
My point is, consider the two leads in that movie, and the way that they portrayed their roles. Franco was the comic foil, and Rogen was the straight(ish) man of the comedy duo. Yet, even in the more 'stoic and restrained' role of the two, Rogen had more than a few moments that normally would be relegated to the comic's part. And, even when he was trying to play it sober and stoic and 'serious', he had lines that I cannot imagine someone like Leonard Nimoy delivering with anything but contempt for the writer.
So while I won't say, "that age of Hollywood is dead, and the turning point was when Mr. Spock passed away," I will say that it is a sign of the times that I don't think he would have been cast for anything in the last several years that wasn't below his well-earned dignity.
