Films that Utterly Terrify Us

I'm on the hunt for a film that really frightens me to the core. The closest I could find was The Descent, but as soon as I saw the monsters, it was much less of a fright for me.

Are there any movies like The Descent, what with the darkness and the claustrophobic nature, but without the campy monsters?

I'm especially upset by demons and ghosts.

Please tell me, also, what movies scare you the most.
