Constructive criticism and dealing with it

Dear fellow artists,

I really want to improve my art and welcome constructive feedback. However, my brain immediately sees it as an attack, assumes the absolute worst, and tells me things like "you might as well quit now". =/

Case in point, I submitted a piece recently on multiple channels. A acquaintance offered critique both positive and negative. The negative being my proportions were bad and my subject had "stubby arms". I attempted to correct, and was still far off, so they did a little digital red pen to show where proportions should be. This is good feedback. So why is my immediate response to slash and burn?

Advice would be appreciated. I'm trying to get things to a level I'm happy with and folks would be willing to pay for (not a lot, just commissions here and there to help pay bills).
