Me, on the topic of Rhodesia
Ok, since this is bound to come up. Because people are generally missinformed and tend toward not doing much if any research beyond Wikipedia...
Me, on the topic of Rhodesia: As noted on Wikipedia, Rhodesia was a British colony, that was guaranteed independence by the UK after WWII finished. However the UK ignored this agreement and chose to force the Rhodesian nation and people into an act of defiance. The justification put forth by the UK was an outward appearance of Racism in the Rhodesian nation. Mostly due to the fact that they chose minority rule, focusing on education as a qualifier for the voting privileges being granted. This lead to an appearance of racism because of the majority of the citizens, being of African Descent being uneducated and even illiterate. This wasn't helped by the sad fact that programs to help educate the native African Descent population were few in the beginning. Tensions fueled by demands from the UK for immediate progress, which can only be summed up in essentially.
- " DO AS WE SAY NOW THIS INSTANT BECAUSE WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT TAKES TIME! REEEEEEE!"
A sentiment all too familiar to the former empire of Britain, lead to something disastrous. The proud Rhodesian people in defiance were pushed into a point of opposition, leading to extremes forming. Due to this what would have and should have been a great starting point for a nation that in 80-100 years of carefully guided development could have been a great modernizing, stabilizing and civilizing force in Africa, that would almost certainly today be either majority rule or damn near to switching to it, being turned into a hot mess of a conflict. A conflict in which people who had settled a land, made farms, grew crops, helped start a nation, fought wars for the British empire and in support of both local population and the British interests, and had come too regard the nation as their home, and thus their land, were forced to fight in almost impossible conditions against an ever more radicalized element of their society that had been funded by communist dictatorships of Stalin and Mao. Modern day Zimbabwe shows exactly how much the world failed to understand the potential of Rhodesia and just how much damage can be done when impatient, stupid politicians are allowed to dictate policies outside of their own nations. This is my opinion on Rhodesia, as for the art, it's aesthetic mostly. With this opinion i point out that I also hold the opinion that the US presence in Vietnam was a mistake. What should have happened was the US flipping off the, at the time imperialist, French and letting them burn in Vietnam for their mistakes, then forcing the UK to eat it's own shit and recognize Rhodesias independence. After which taking Rhodesia under it's wing and helping guide it into formation of a Republic that would slowly progress as a society into at least a big part of it's potential if not to the point of realization of the entire potential of the nation.
