A New and Exciting Announcement!!
Posted 12 years agoWe've got two new things to report! The first is that Rocket City FurMeet is changing hotels to a bigger place, and the second is that we're changing dates!
The dates for Rocket City FurMeet 2013 will be June 14-16th, 2013. We understand that this is a big change from our tradition of being on Memorial Day weekend, but it's the best time we were able to find that allowed us to keep the room pricing very reasonable and still gave us enough room to spread out and relax.
This year we're moving to the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel located at the Huntsville Airport. It has a ton of convention space and is super convenient to get to if you're coming in from out of town via air -- there's no need to get a ride anywhere because once you land you'll already be at RCFM!
The address of the new hotel is:
1000 Glenn Hearn Boulevard SW
Huntsville, AL 35824
Telephone: (256) 772-9661
(Yup, it's actually at the airport itself!)
For more information about the new hotel, along with photos and other cool info, check out their website.
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/fourp.....propertyID=879
More information, including how to book your hotel room and registration information will be posted soon about Rocket City FurMeet: The Eleventh Hour!

A Message from our Chairman!
Posted 12 years agoRCFM is here and gone away again. Was a really good year, a bit chaotic and a lot of last-minute efforts - but that's often how we end up pulling together as a family and making a good time for everyone
Between the Charity Auction, Duckie's Poker Tournament, donations, the annual threat of shaving The Cat, that big donation at Closing (thank you, person who's name I don't remember), and the help of so many good people, we raised $2000 for PCDS. Woo!
We also welcomed Kiran and Alex back on Staff, as well as having Kurse, Keefur, and several others join us for planning next year. We will miss Brim dearly, and said so at Opening and Closing - which were both slapdash affairs that everyone seemed to get a kick out of. And Alex is Staff member X for the next year. (All your fault, hate to say it but...)
We had 242 people here this year, which is just fabulous and exciting. We had very little in the way of advertising and announcements, being a bit understaffing and less organized than we should have been... we made it happen, and it was good. Everybody post Pictures, please!
Next year will be even better. Planning for RCFM 2013, "The Eleventh Hour", will have a surge of optimism and drive, with the passion of an excellent Staff who will be looking forward to it for the next 361 days and be working to make it the best place to be!
That closes out the first RCFM decade. Please send comments to "[email protected]" and help us make it all even better. ;)

RCFM Revolution!
Posted 13 years agoHey, fellow furs and convention enthusiasts! Long time no chat! =3
We've heard some nasty rumors going on about us, and we feel that it's time for us to lay some of those to rest. First and foremost, yes, there will be an RCFM this year! Though we've had a lot of changes in the RCFM landscape since we closed our doors for 'To The Nines' (not least of which was Brody stepping down as head cat), and a lot of complications thrown our way (malfunctioning computers are not our friends!) we're back on track and prepared to have a convention that's going to blow your socks off! It's our tenth year in existence, after all - how could it be anything but amazing? So let me wet your palettes with a few tidbits of information, so you can start to get prepared for all of the awesome that's coming your way for Memorial Day Weekend.
Hotel: In an effort to meet our convention needs, we're moving away from the Embassy this year (which, while beautiful, is just too much hotel for us. Phew!) and are securing a very nice, much more affordable location near downtown Huntsville, one that's got easier access to food places and the like. There will be an announcement about that just as soon as pre-registration opens up, so while you're registering for con, you can also get your roomspaces lined up!
Pre-registration: Should be open within the next two weeks. The announcement about pre-reg will be in conjunction with the announcement concerning our hotel (oh man, I can't wait to show you guys these pictures!), so keep your eyes and ears open!
Website: Our website is going to get an overhaul, with the help of the most amazing Fossil, who has been more helpful in the past six months than anyone can ever know. (Can we keep him?)
So prepare yourselves, furries! We're gearing up for some fun stuff, and we're excited to have you along for the ride!
If you've got any questions, feel free to throw them our way! I promise, they'll be answered in a timely (i.e. in less than 24 hours) manner. =3

RCFM 'To The Nines' Con Report!
Posted 13 years agoHey, guys!
RCFM is finally over, and we had a great time getting our swagger on in fancy duds and doing fancy things. We loved having Scape and kyoht as our Guests of Honor, and man, did they ever do an amazing job! We hope they'll join us again, even if isn't in such a formal environment. Also, we'd personally like to thank our Mystery Guest of Honor, corina_koala13 for being so very wonderful. It was her first RCFM, and she's informed us that not only will she be back next year, but she's also claiming us as her home con! How awesome is that?
First, I'd like to thank our wonderful volunteers. You guys worked so hard this con that I've got more than 15 of you showing up for free next year! WOW! Our final volunteer count topped out at about 20, and each and every one of you did an amazing job. Aurtha, Rubix, Leeran, Sapphire, and Tamara worked the hardest, I think - they each ended up with more than 30 logged hours. This makes me think that I made it too easy on ya'll this year...and if you didn't get your special Scapegoat volunteer badge, you've got one week to contact me and let me know before you miss out. Everybody loved these badges! I don't know if anybody can top the hard work Scape did this year. Also, our fantastic photographers did an excellent job - Techwolf brought out some gorgeous equipment and made us all look fancy, and lilkitren took well over two thousand photos. The best of those will be posted here just as soon as I've got them. I'd also like to send out a personal thank-you to Bunny Halberd for doing such a fantastic job working registration this year. It seemed a lot more organized than it has in previous years, and though we hit a few snags when we first opened for registration, Bunny busted bunny butt and had us up and running properly in almost no time at all. Our final attendee count was 302, and I want to thank each and every one of you for coming out! I hope you all had a blast hanging with us and puttin' on the ritz all weekend.
We learned a lot this year. On Friday, after we learned some Para-Para, brodycatsmouth stepped up to the mic in the ballroom to tell us all about this year during opening ceremonies. That cat looks great in a suit, and he rocked it most of the weekend! After OC, Husky in Denial worked the stage to an amazing level. (We do hope Buck and the crew will rock that stage next year, too!) Then we had the privilege of welcoming back the beloved bucktowntiger to the RCFM stage. He wrecked it this year, of course. Our DJ friday eve was Oasirot, and there were some neat tunes spun in that ballroom.
Saturday started off with a bang - K.O. brewed us some excellent cappuccino before Scape taught us all about bagpipes. We discussed experiences and meanings to totem animals, fursuiters ran rampant all over the hotel (there were 43 suiters in that parade!), and then Kyoht showed us some awesome pointers when it comes to drawing werewolves. We also got some tips and pointers for how to record music at home for the up-and-coming furry musician! Tamara Rose educated us on interactions with fursuiters and service animals (and boy, did we learn a lot!) Then isfacat made us laugh and Crimson Mist made us swoon, before felinaferal, twistedspectrum, and Fox LeMonte dragged us into the main ballroom for the first ever Furry Formal! The Formal had an outstanding attendance, and furries enjoyed it so much that we're going to do something similar next year. Congrats to our various contest winners from Friday eve - tarynwahboi and sirrauikoren were our 'Best-Dressed' this year; the adorably petite Nightwolf won our limbo contest (though Raiu came close, making it down to a limbo stick 3 feet off the ground before he fell over in his 7-foot-tall fursuit), and fangdevante was faster than all of us at musical chairs. Just outside, Techwolf took prom-style photos of all of those who wanted to capture memories of our fancy eve (those pics to come soon). Meanwhile, shortly after the dance, we were informed that the Poker Tournament had a winner - our very own Kinyin beat Bucktown Tiger at the very last moment. Up in the Game Room, Boba also had a winner for the Munchkin tourney - Shival!
On Sunday, we began to wind down. K.O. again woke us up with delicious cappies, before we learned even more things - we got some tips on fursuit construction, took something that should be an official college course - Fursuiting 101, and Kyoht gave us some awesome examples of the right way to use picture references. Scape then took us down to the parking garage, where he serenaded us with the beautiful sounds of...bagpipes! We then headed upstairs to Rant with Isfa (winner to be announced), and then it was time to say goodbye. During Closing Ceremonies, we auctioned off some pants, shaved KO *bald* - and then...we threw him into the canal. Sorry, buddy! We finished off the weekend by listening to live techno music as done by Buck, Jinxtigr and several others in some fantastic instruments.
This year, we're saying goodbye to alexanderkatz. He's leaving staff to go on to other things, but we're sure he'll be back...he does, after all, have a golden ticket. =D! To replace him, we're having to bring on 3 new staffers. (Gosh, Alex, what are we going to do without you?) One of those staffers is the wonderful, fantastic, amazing bowtie, who should have been on staff years ago. ^^
Here's some numbers for those of you who are interested:
Attendees: 302
Fursuiters: 43 in the parade, 52 total
Volunteers: 29
Volunteer hours awarded: 520
$$$ raised for PCDS: $2257.25! (And $1,000 of that was just from K.O.'s haircut! Wow, you guys really like shaving cats.)
Again, I'd like to thank all of our volunteers and staffers - you guys all did excellent this year, and without you, con wouldn't be possible. Also, our panel leaders did wonderfully this year! I didn't know you could learn so much at furry cons!
Next year, we hope you'll return to us to celebrate us moving through the ages at RCFM:Decades. We'll be dressing up and dressing down, having costume contests and welcoming as our Guest of Honor the fantastic, jurassic fossil! So we hope you'll all come down and jam out with us next year, in 2012!
So...what's your favorite memory? What's gonna make you come back next year?

RCFM9 - Nine Days and Counting!
Posted 13 years agoHey, guys! twistedspectrum here, ready to give you an update! Are you prepared?
First, pre-registration for this year's RCFM is now closed. Don't worry, if you already pre-registered and haven't paid yet, you still have until the day prior to the convention to hit that paypal button and save some cash! As a reminder, registration at the door is $20 for a one-day pass, and $40 for a standard-level all-weekend entry to the con. There are, of course, higher levels of registration that earn you some neat goodies! Check out the registration page on the site for all the nitty-gritty details on that.
Also, if you weren't already aware, the Embassy Suites is full. Not just the RCFM roomblock, the whole hotel. There's some graduations that are happening the same weekend, so the hotel is packed out! We're not concerned about mundane interference; something similar happened last year and if anything, we exposed some mundanes to the good side of furry and some people got educated. (One of the parties even asked some fursuiters to be in their professional photos! How neat is that?)
If you haven't reserved a room for RCFM, no worries! The Holiday Inn across the street still has room. Their contact info is as follows:
Huntsville Holiday Inn Downtown
401 Williams Avenue
Huntsville, AL 35801
Front Desk: 256-533-1400
Web: http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us.....wa/hoteldetail
You can also check the Facebook page or the LJ community for roomshare (or rideshare) opportunities. There's also a yahoo group - and RCFM has it's own section at BamaFurs! So there's plenty of resources there to help you guys out and make it possible for you guys to join us this year!
There's also been some changes made to Artist's Alley. Our new AA coordinator, Felina Fullstop, is implementing some new rules in an attempt to make sure things go smoother than they have in years prior. Now AA is no longer first-come first-serve; there will be a signup and each artist will have an assigned seat, so that things don't get as messy and confusing as they have before. Hopefully, I'll have more information about that before con actually hits - if not, Felina herself will probably be telling us all about the Artist's Alley changes at Opening Ceremonies.
Speaking of Felina Fullstop, she'll be our DJ this year at a very special event, happening Saturday night....
That's right. This year, RCFM is hosting a Grand Gala Ball!
The fantastic Mr. Fox LeMonte and ever-hilarious isfacat will be MCing this A-List event. We're hoping you guys will join us Saturday night for this event, a dance filled with all sorts of silly furry fun - from a best-dressed contest to some limbo, and maybe even a congo line or two! We'll be throwing open the ballroom doors at 9:30, so we hope you'll put on your favorite threads and get your tails down to the grand ballroom to join us at what promises to be an eventful, interesting evening. Come strut your stuff and show us what you're made of!
RCFM: one of the only cons in the world that can make you feel like a celebrity without all the scandal.
We've got an awesome event schedule lined up for you guys! You can check it out right here. Go ahead and start planning your weekend, because it's right around the corner!
So - are you guys ready? What are you looking forward to the most?
