just a general (but important) note:
this isn't directed specifically at any person or event, but please don't act super familiar and/or possessive with myself and/or my OCs. they don't want to snuggle with your OCs, and i don't want to hug you.
i try to keep my OCs fairly in-character in art i get of them and stories i make about them, and Nix specifically would maim first & ask questions later. i know she's pretty, but she's literally an assassin with a bad attitude. my other chararters are less unsavory in personality but this applies to them too.
for me personally, i don't like when people touch me in real life, or *touch* me online, no matter the context. so please don't. it makes me uncomfortable.
there isn't even really an "unless i've known you x-amount of time" (because some people just don't click) or an "unless i indicate it's okay" (because things can be interpreted differently). it's just a good general rule to not act familiar with people you don't know, especially creators you follow.
(of course there's nuance to this and i do have friends these things are okay with. but. good general rule to follow)

Posted 5 years agoand i'm SO sorry for the severe lack of activity here!! wow. time flies.
i had a SUPER crazy busy...like, half-year. everything was pretty much non-stop from may until september.
i have a huge backlog still of art from others to post here, but i'm posting a couple things that i've done recently.
honestly, if you'd like to keep more up to date with me and experience a more active Nix, i recommend following my commission account,

free raffles on pause

i've been pretty good about doing raffles every month this year, but they're going to go on pause for the moment. i just pulled the winner for the october raffle and i'll do my best to get it done during the month of november, but with the holidays coming up i don't want to stretch myself too thin. i've applied for a seasonal position at my old work place (i'm a crazy person and this is my favorite time to work, when it's really busy) and i may be putting in more fulltime applications. plus the general hectic atmosphere that goes with this time of year. i just don't want to say i'll get a picture done and then stress about it and not have time. i hope you all understand! hopefully i'll be able to pick these raffles up again early next year when things die down!

i need to flail

i just. i need to flail. about a book. this is my personal account, i can't do that here, right? XD i'll try to be vague so i don't spoil anything for anyone, i just have SO MANY FEELS.
back in early 2017 a book came out called Caraval. i worked at Barnes&Noble at the time so i saw it on the shelves pretty much every day. the cover totally mesmerized me even though there was nothing special about it - it was just pretty. i don't know how long it took me to buy it but eventually i caved and did do that.
i just got around to reading it about a week ago, and i promptly went to BN when i was about 2/3 through it because i NEEDED the second one right away. it was....well, very good. on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next and how the story will unfold etc etc etc. i finished Caraval at like 6am one night and started reading Legendary right away because i honestly couldn't stop myself. but i only got through the prologue before i passed out lol.
WELL. let me tell you about Legendary. or rather let me NOT and instead flail incoherently because FUCK. this book made me feel more feels than i think i've ever felt about a book before. ever. and i've felt a lot of book feels. i almost threw it across the room to never be picked up again on multiple occasions because i was scared of what might happen and how it might play out, but then i DIDNT because i NEEDED TO KNOW. it's been hard to focus on drawing this week because this book is ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT. it was a little predictable in some places for for every one thing i guessed at, the author blindsided me with like FOUR OTHER THINGS. UGH.
i just. i can't. so i finished this book last night/this morning at like 8am. i had meant to go to bed at 6 but i HAD to finish it and those last couple chapters were a lot of stop-and-go because i was so anxious about what each new page would bring, and ALSO because i had to stop and take literal minutes to collect myself from what the pages DID bring.
and then i finally finished it.
and then i couldn't sleep for 3 hours because OH MY HEART. MY HEART. even know i can't stop thinking about it and my mind is just spinning and my emotions don't know what to do or which way to turn.
AND. i LEARNED. that there's only ONE MORE BOOK. and it takes place TWO MONTHS after the second one (what about all that time in between????? YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME HANGING ON TELLA'S BIRTHDAY!!!!).
GODS i thought i needed the second one when i was almost done with the first, but i didn't know NEED until i finished Legendary. i NEED Finale. i need it NOW.
and it doesn't come out. until may. 2019. i don't know if i can do it guys.

i know most people here probably don't actually care about my life at all, so i apologize. just like to keep updated. TLDR, what the title says. living here is becoming more and more stressful and that's very bad for my depression/anxiety and it's about time i got a new job anyway, so i'm gonna try to do that.
back in november i moved here when my lease ended at my last apartment. i'm on the same property as my dad and he owns the house, but there are two houses on the property so we technically live in separate houses. i don't have to pay rent, but i still pay all my utilities and stuff (and phone and car expenses, all my food, pet stuff, etc etc etc) . i'd never lived with my dad before this, i grew up living with my mom. my dad and i have always had our issues and i was nervous about this, but i figured i'd give it a shot. he was excited about it because he wanted to spend more time with me, wanted another person around, etc. at first it was cool because i didn't have a roommate for the first time and i had my own space and could do my own thing. it helped with the stress/depression a lot. my dad was really happy to have me here cuz technically HE wasn't alone anymore then. but he's been getting more and more controlling of what i do, with almost complete disregard for my thoughts/feelings/preferences/conveniences. he wants to know if and when i'm going places and tells me where to park my truck when i get back (as if it matters, i can park anywhere on the street, really, but not according to him). and THEN he nitpicks where/how i park and tells me i can't do that when there's literally nothing wrong with it to anyone else i explain it to (ei - i "ONLY" left two feet of space between me and the car in front of me). i'm running out of places to park. he comes over whenever he feels like it and will talk to me for an hour or more even if i tell him i'm working on art/commissions or i'm busy/streaming, etc. yknow, making money, to pay my bills. so i can live here. he gets upset if i don't answer his calls/texts or the door when he comes over. since he owns the house, he'll just come in sometimes if he needs to do some work in the house or something. he expects me to do things for him whenever he wants and gets upset if, for example, i'm SLEEPING and don't want to get up at 8AM because normally i GO to sleep at 6am, or for some other reason can't/won't do what he says. he'll come into my house and criticize my CLEANING or PLACEMENT of things in my own own house (btw, my house it cleaner than those of most people i know. maybe i didn't do the dishes for one day, OOPS, or haven't vacuumed this week, SHAME)
among other things. more has happened and i really don't want to get into it more than i have, but it's really dumb and i'm done dealing with it. so i need to find myself a new job ASAP so i can find a new place to live ASAP. it'll be a struggle, i don't really have anything to wear to interviews or money to buy new clothes with, and i've NEVER had luck finding apartments, but.....i need to do it now. i hope it goes well.....

so, like, on the one hand, i'm another year older, which sucks x.x
but on the OTHER hand, i'm going to eat yummy food, which is great
started it out with a free denny's grand slam at midnight, like ya do >.>
gonna be AFK today, going to do an escape room and melting pot with a bunch of friends and, if i'm super lucky, i won't have to pay for any of it XD it is my FAVORITE restaurant, and the local one has this deal going on where if everyone with you gets a 4 course meal, your bday meal is free! so. here's hoping my friends are hungry lol
tomorrow i'm spending with my mom. we're calling it bday things but probably just hanging out, haha. then sunday i might be doing italian festival with a friend, and then monday i might be doing canal fest with a different friend. whole birthday weekend planned!
but for now, BIRTHDAY! *WHOOSH*

Posted 6 years agookay, something that ALWAYS ANNOYS ME is when people try to argue with me that tea doesn't hydrate you and has "SO MUCH MORE" caffeine than coffee does. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

sure there are some teas out there that are super high in caffeine. and yes, tea leaves contain more caffeine than coffee beans. but with very few exceptions, a cup of coffee has between 100 and 200mg of caffeine, and most teas have between 30 and 70mg of caffeine. even chai, which people run to for caffeine, is only at the upper end of that range.
it depends how your tea is brewed and what type it is, but please god stop thinking tea in general is super high in caffeine, and that it therefore won't hydrate you. ugh.

it appears that the last non-raffle journal i posted here was in October?????
I'M SO SORRY
a LOT has happened since then. there were holidays! and moving! and craziness! and me getting so stressed and depressed and angry that i could barely function and SO, i quit my job. yup. couldn't take it anymore. i liked the actual job and most of the people i worked with, but i got REALLY sick of being told i did everything wrong and needed to be responsible for everything when i was already the best person there. and also corporate started to be really terrible. i was just sick of being mistreated in general. not gonna take that shit from anyone. i've put up with too much crap in my life to do it anymore, etc etc.
so now i'm more or less jobless, as i'm doing art fulltime again. my last day at my job was Jan 13th (which was actually my half birthday lol). it's been nice. i'm on my own crazy backward nocturnal schedule, i'm actually SLEEPING, i don't know what stress is anymore, and i moved in november when my lease was up so i don't have a roommate anymore and that's been nice too. kinda lonely, but nice. thank god for my cat.
i'm living at my dad's address but in a different house (weird set up), so i don't have to actively deal with another person. which...i thought would be terrible for my depression, being all alone and stuff, but i've been good. my mental health is legitimately better than it's been for...many years.
the only thing i have to really stress about right now is my dad's health, which is actually a pretty big worry. he doesn't tell me anything but he's in pain all the time and it doesn't seem great. so he could be around for 10 more years or 3 more months, and that's terrifying.....
ANYWAY, happier thoughts. i'm also teaching myself to cook! i never did previously because i lived with someone who was a FANTASTIC cook, and then there was so much food at/around work that i just never needed to. i'm really enjoying it though. i haven't made anything super exciting/complicated yet, but everything is progress. i have a bunch of recipes saved, so i'm working through them and also trying other things. it's a good time. being an adult and whatnot.
in more recent things, i've started trying to do my monthly free art raffles again. there's only a couple days left in the current one, so check it out! http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8640477/ only one winner per month, but i won't do the same person twice, so there's always a chance if you haven't won.
as of today, i ALSO just got accepted into the Artist Alley at UBcon, a local college-run convention. i ran it for three years, then sold one year, and then....the past couple years have been filled with INCREDIBLE amounts of drama and stupidity. so. yeah. but this year the guy running it is making an effort to be a decent human being, and i got in! i don't know if any of you are local, but if you are i'll be there selling prints and charms and commissions April 20-22.
okay, i think that's all i got. it's 6:30 in the morning, so i should really go to bed. easter's this weekend, so i hope it's a good time for anyone who celebrates it. it's also april fools day though, so...good luck with that. i know i'll do my best, lol.

needs cat advice

Like, in general. He has been since I got him. He's a bit better than he used to be, but fairly recently he's decided it's a good idea to throw his water dish all over the floor, thus getting water everywhere. He leaves his food dish where it is.
I have no idea why he's doing this. Does anyone know how I can stop it?? Or give me ideas for a dish he can't do this with? His current one is fairly heavy and grippy on the bottom so that it DOESN'T slide over the floor, but this cat still manages to slide/tip it
