17 months of busting my ass off... (warning: work rant)
Posted 6 years agoJust to be put on non-active at work for suddenly refusing to do my job, not fitting in the team anymore and directly treatening and intimidating the regional sales manager.
That is what I got told by last said person.
To start at the beginning. I began working for my current employer 17 months ago. All was good, no issues at work except for the workload being just stupidly high. After completing my first 3 months I got asked to stay as the store manager was very pleased with me. Sadly I would have to go to a diffirent site as they were in need of some extra help. So I agreed and started the following month.
The start was a tiny bit bumpy at the new site but after a few days, things got much better where in the first few weeks things began feeling great.
We all did our thing, helped each other out, have fun with one another but at the same time being proffecional. Things were going great, the site manager and colleagues were even openly thanking me for the work I did and making sure we reached our weekly sales targets. Untill the regional sales manager reared its ugly face by telling our store manager that he shouldn't let me work as much as he did right now because if he did there would be concequences for him.
This went on and on for months, untill our site manager dropped the news that he was quiting his job here to go back to his previous job as he had enough of the threats that the regional sales manager made to him, even going as far as black mailing him.
So after our site manager left, we were left to our own devices for nearly 6 months. With no real manager to guide and help us, we somehow managed to keep reaching our sales targets. Later I came to find out that it was mostly because of me putting in extra work for which everybody was super happy about.
Then the new year came and one of my colleagues got involved in a serious car accident from which he still is recovering from (both mentaly and physicaly). So we went from a 5 man team to a 3 man team in less then a 2 month time span which put even more presure on all of us but mostly on me (workload wise).
From January untill two weeks ago when I'm writing this, I kept our site in the green. My two other colleagues were taking up the role as site manager and MOT inspector (safety inspector). Both tasks were they couldn't help me out with repairing cars and servicing them. Again they gave me credit for doing my job well and getting cars out the door on the same day, and again we kept making most of our sales targets. Things were very stressfull but it somehow still all worked out.
Now, 2 weeks ago from when I am writing this, our new site manager started after only 2 weeks of "training". The guy in question had no real working experience at a garage before but he did had experience in managing a store. We all were a bit sceptical about his plans and his ideas to bring in more money. All 3 of us warned him countless times that he wasn't going to accomplish any of that as we were already under staffed and overworked.
On his first official day, the new guy was already pushing us to hard. Something we'd know would happen as he got promised mountains of gold by the regional sales manager. He also promised him that he's get 2 extra mechanics. Something we warned him about that he wouldn't get but to no avail.
We started to voice our concerns and advice a bit more directly, not sugar coating things, and me telling the site manager that I couldn't do the task he gave me as I was already busy doing something else which he apparently took as me refusing to do my job. Though after going forwards and backwards for a bit, I reluctendly did as I was told at the expence of the work that I was already doing not being finished in time.
And now for the bit that this long ass journal/rant is going on about.
During the passed 6 months I began to develope some pain in my right shoulder, which got increasingly worse as time went on. So the day before yesterday, I contacted the site manager that I was coming in later in the morning as I made a docter's appointment to get my shoulder checked our. He replied that it was fine.
Come yesterday. After coming back from the docter and arriving at work, the site manager told me that the regional sales manager was here and would like to have a chat with me. Okay I said and went up to the break room to wait for him.
Things became surreal the moment he walked in as he had a look in his eyes that quite frankly scared the piss out of me. The first words he said also confirmed that he was not here for a social chat as he said that he had a problem and didn't had good news for me.
He emmidiatly began talking in a raised voice, using scare tactics to threaten me with being fired on the spot for refusing to do my job, me not doing my job propperly and for coming in late that day without saying anything to the site manager. To make things worse, he saw that I had a letter from my lawyer about having the avarage hours that I've worked for for the passed 6 months be put in a new contract (dutch laws)as I was still working on standby/call by bases.
He told me that he felt highly treatend and intimidated by me and told me to take off my work clothes and leave "his" propperty and that he would put me on non-active for the remainder of my contract, which is 7 months and which means that I can not collect any social benefits for being out of a job beyond my help. Quiting myself would also not be a smart thing as I can't collect any benefits that way either.
What happend next took every ounce of my patience. I went to my toolbox to get a few personal items from it upon which the regional manager came storming towards me, yelling to leave "his" toolbox alone and that I must leave "his" propperty emmidiatly or else, all while standing roughly 10cm from my face. I told him to step back as I felt really uncomfortable and intimidated by him. He had that give me a reason to rip your throat out kind of look in his eyes to which I froze. He kept on yelling in my face continuesly to where the site manager stepped in between us to de-escalate the situation.
When I left I could hear him yelling something more about getting a lawyer or something though at that time all I wanted was to go home.
After getting home, contacting HR at work, his direct supervisor and my own lawyer I just caved in mentally. Why would a company treat someone like they did me who is always available to help out and kept a store open that was loosing money and turning it into a store that made money (going from last place to 4th place out of 16 stores in the region in a years time)?
Hell I even have proof of customers being over the moon that I was able to repair the entire front suspension, brakes and lower control arms on their car so that they could drive back home with it on the same day.
Not to mention my colleagues being over the moon as well with the ammount of work I shifted and with the speed of which I did it.
Sometimes I wonder if people like that cumstain of a regional sales manager gets a kick out of terrorising people like that because I'm not the only one in this company that doesn't think highly of him.
I'll keep things posted on how things are developing on here but for now, I need to try and get my calm back as I'm quite emotional right now.

My US trip and MFF recap...
Posted 10 years agoAfter 3 weeks of living like an American (sort off) I can only say one thing: FUCK THAT WAS GREAT!
I'm not going into too much detail what I've done as it would be a boring long story. The thing I would like to mention is that I had a truly amazing time in Colorado with truly amazing people who helped me open up my eyes and have giving me a goal to work for.
About MFF, being my first US con I'm really glad that I attended it as it was a total blast! Although I didn't know that many people, I got to meet a few folks who've made this con quite memorable. Not because of the gas attack/accident and the firemen barging into our room but the people who where there and the great atmosphere that surrounded the entire hotel.
Just a list of people I'd love to thank for making these 3 weeks totally worth while and who made me start making plans for next year!

Posted 10 years agoTomorrow, around this time I'll be half way on my journey to the land of opportunity: The USA.
It'll be my first flight alone and my first time being in the western hemisphere. I'm terribly excited for the flight and even more so my time in the US.
I'll be spending most of my time in and around Denver Colorado, staying at a really good and close friend and his family.
I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving together with them, fight my way through the masses for cheap consumer products during Black Friday and I'll be attending my first US convention, MFF. This, and many other things have been planned until it's time for me to say adieu and until the next time when I fly back on the 14th of December.
Hopefully I'll be able to meet most the folks that I've talked to via Skype or twitter during my stay in Colorado and MFF.

Posted 10 years agoThat's right. It's just 31 days until I pack my stuff and head on out across the pond in a big metal tube at god knows what speed, flying to the ever so lovely... Denver Colorado! :P It's something that's been in the making for well over a year now and I'm really excited that it's finally going to happen!
That's right, this cat is going over seas for a few weeks, taking off on the 22nd of November and flying back on the 14th of December. During that time I'll be exploring Colorado, celebrating my first Thanksgiving with people I hold close, fighting my way through Black Friday :P and much much more.
Another thing that I'll be doing is attend MFF! Yes, after last years tease I'm finally going to attend my first US con (Jeez, so many firsts during those 3 weeks :P) So be on the look out for the grumpy cat and don't be afraid to say Hi or nudge me for drinks or foods or if you just want to hang out and chat :3

Furthermore, 3 out of the 7 the job-centres I've signed myself up for have terminated my contract with them as they weren't able to find any company in the time they've set out for me that would be willing to hire me as my profile was either too good or too bad to fulfil any of the offers they had on record and wanted to focus more on the people who had a better chance then me at finding a job.
I'm slowly getting enough of this BS, of hearing that constant "no" that the thoughts I had 2 years ago are slowly making their way back. Don't worry, my shrink knows about this and we're actively working on it to prevent things from escalating. Though the fact remains, a person can only take so much before he cracks and cracks are showing on me.

My life and the things I did
Posted 11 years agoI was planning on writing a long explanation what has been going on in my life and why I am who/what I am but I'll just give you the short version.
Suffering from a depression sucks. It ruins everything you like, love and care about, including friends, and it sometimes makes you do things you really regret.
To those who I left behind without an explanation why I stopped seeking contact with you or who I suddenly left behind without any notification, I'm deeply sorry.
As for the reason why I left is easy. I try to run away, physically and mentally, to feel better. To get rid of bad thoughts and feelings by every means possible.
These actions cost me a lot of friends and more then just friends. It caused me to loose my relationship with someone I love dearly.

To those who I left behind without an explanation why I stopped seeking contact with you or who I suddenly left behind without any notification, I'm deeply sorry.
As for the reason why I left is easy. I try to run away, physically and mentally, to feel better. To get rid of bad thoughts and feelings by every means possible.
These actions cost me a lot of friends and more then just friends. It caused me to loose my relationship with someone I love dearly.

Life has caught up with me and it sucks
Posted 12 years agoI'm not the type that posts journals on here with any significant meaning but this one will explain the absence of me in the coming year or so...
I have difficulties explaining what's going on with me so I will keep it short.
I have issues that have been haunting me for to long and it's taking it's tole on me in a very negative way.
I am incapable of having real fun (like last EF, I really didn't have a great time there), I'm always down, during my weekends I sleep longer then I should ( 12 hrs) but when I wake up I feel like I've only slept 1 or 2 hours. Plus other things that for me are still unknown but which also take it's tole on me.
Some people already warned me this will happen and they're right. I've should have listened to you sooner.
Therefore the following things are going to happen:
- Quit working (reason being is that I work in shifts and it's hindering me)
- No furcons/meeting/gatherings (no work = no cash)
- Cutting down on my online/computer-time and instead take care of the house and pests (3 cats)
- Getting professional help
- Probably taking drugs/medicines to help me with it even though I'm against using drugs/medicines.
As for other things I have no clue what's going to happen. Just pray and hope for the best.

Ever since I finished up my education as a camera operator and Stage Technician I've been looking for a job in one of those sectors. To no avail unfortunately so I was/am forced to take other kinds of jobs. Jobs I wasn't trained for nor having any interest into it.
Fortunately I got hired by Philips 2 years ago and last September by Vredestein (where I still work). Both employers have their good and bad sides but both have one thing in common. The kind of work does not interest me a bit. It's not challenging enough for me nor does it stimulate any wishes to continue there if it were up to me. The only thing that keeps me from quitting are the fact that I need money to live a reasonably normal life and my boyfriend who will otherwise kill me for not having a job.
Now to get to the home-sickness part...
In the passed few months the fact that I can't do what I love to do most to earn a living with has been eating away at my motivation to go to work. This feeling got worse when my boyfriend and I went to a show in a local theatre with tons of awesome lighting, sound and video effects. Talking to the crew didn't help either as they talked about having a great time working in this theatre and today this feeling turned into the feeling of me being in need of a theatre to work at. It's a place I feel I belong.
I'll try to send out a job application form to some of the local theatres in this area and the town I grew up in, in the hope of finding that what I'm looking for: A place behind the lime-light... or light-desk.

Buying a legal game at 50 euro's, I'd expected to have it installed without any fiddling with files in 1 to 2 hours.
Sadly, this expectation got torpedoed rather quickly as I pressed the install button. Steam was required to download the fucking game, 16gb in total. Installing the game without Steam or even internet didn't work, so I had no other option to download it via Steam at a aggonizing speed of ~250 kb/s... a grand total of ~20 hours of waiting before it's downloaded on my PC!!!! Why?! I really fucking wonder why I bought a game, containing 2 DVD-roms which could easily contain all of the game data for 50 f-ing euro's which could easily be blanks!!!
This brings me to the conclusion of why people download games via illigal sources instead of buying them legaly via game-stores or online. Not only does it save you around 50 euro's a game, but also a fucking long wait untill you finally downloaded the game via Steam. The only benefit I see here is that you can use those worthless disks as nice coaster for your drink to stand on.

It's been one year since I got hold of Midas via aceshepherd and thus far it's been a blast! Even though I'm not that much of an active suiter and such, I really do enjoy wandering around while wearing him, having fun with people with my happy face ™ and teasing those who deserve it ;)
To celebrate this joyful *coughs* occasion, I've been thinking of getting a few commissions done of Midas but the thing is, I don't know who to commission.
I've been to
lay0wn before from some commissions but I was thinking of having some digital art made of him. So, who do you recommend for a nice art piece?

Posted 13 years agoI thought I keep you guys posted on what's been going on in my life recently.
We start back on friday the 29th of July were
tamael and I started packing for a 2 week trip to Croatia.
After a 14 hour trip - aprox. 1300km/800miles - we arived at drfur place in Zagreb were we would spend 2 days.
After Zagreb, we drove to Plitvice National Park (http://www.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr/en/index.php). At that time
tigergoof had joined us. If you like nature and waterfalls, I'd recogment this place highly. Though do wear decent walking/hiking shoes ;)
tamael and I spend the following 4 days at an autocamp nearby were we did nothing except relax and be the lazy kitties that we are :P
The next day, drfur met up with us at the Karlovac city Museum were we learned a few things about the history of Croatia. After that, we set of to the city of Biograd were we met up with tigergoof again and spend another night at an autocamp.
The next day, we had to hurry because we were seposedly to go rafting. After a perriles drive over gravel roads at around 80 km/h, in a car that weighed closely to 1.8 ton, we managed to arrive at the rafting center 20 minutes to late. Thankfully, the people in charge were so kind to wait for us. 6 hours and severe sunburned leggs later, we were back in the car again and driving like mad to the port of Split to try and catch the ferry to our next destination. Sadly, once we arrived at the port, we noticed that the ferry that should have taken us to Vis already left.
A bit frustrated that we had missed our ferry and not being able to find a cheap place to spend the night, tigergoof managed to find us a room at an eldery guy's place. How he managed that we still don't know.
The next morning came and we headed back to the port but this time, we purposefully arrived an hour to early. Once loaded onto the ferry and sitting in the restaurant below deks we finaly could relax a bit.
Once we arrived at the Ilse of Vis and had installed ourselfs into our appartment, we did what kitties are best at... relaxing and being lazy :P We went to the beach each day and we took a guided tour of the Isle. During the tour we found out that it was a former millitary base during the 2nd world war and during the time that Croatia was still part of Yugoslavia. We spended a total of 5 days on the Isle of Vis.
After that we went to tigergoof his parents in Metkovic and to their private beach and to the old City of Dubrovnik.
The final day of our vacation in Croatia, we headed back to drfur again were we had a short rest before us three headed back to the Netherlands again. The journy back was interresting to say the least but also the last time that we ever going to do that.
Back in the Netherlands we had 2 days before EF began.
EF itself was like every other EF. Good and great fun. Although this year, I kept myself a bit to the side as I wanted to take it a bit calmer. Non the lest, I had an awesome time with my friends there.
Fast forward 1 week. I had the good news that a company wanted to hire me as things with my then current employer Philips weren't going that great. After an innicial conversation with them they invited me back for a second conversation. During that second conversation they told me that they were interrested in me and if I could begin working for them the following week. As much as I loved to I couldn't as I needed one week to wrap things up at Philips so as from last monday I'm currently employed by Vredestein Tire Factory. This also resulted in me moving to a place that was somewhat nearby and let it be so that my boyfriend lives near Vredestein.
To sum the last few one and a half months up I'd say it was a fucking great time with lots and lots of good things happening to me.
