Well, last month, I got promoted to full time salary status, 401k, all benefits type deal. HOLY SHIT.

So with my free time, I've moved to a new house, and I'm starting up a small project with some of my friends.
If you're a Second Life enthusiast, hit me up - we're trying to set some shit up.

I got my life in gear. Been working as a QA Tester for Bethesda Softworks - yes those people who made Skyrim.
I work on Elder Scrolls Online, which kickstarted my career in that field. I'm so happy and life has never been better. Things have never been better and I am much happier than I have ever been in life.
In other news, been working fiercely on a new album.
All else - I need to retouch with myself for a bit, so I may be making frequent visits back to here and reconnecting with friends and networking it up again.
Also plan to go to AC this year, so hopefully we will see you there. Maybe I can have my album ready by next year's. Maybe.

Marriage equality!
Posted 11 years agoFor those of you who keep asking about the equal sign (I'm surprised a lot of people still don't know...)
This is to show support for marriage equality. Right now, homosexual marriage equality is still a big issue. While much of the world has learned to accept the idea of homosexuality socially, there still remains a political and structural inequality for it when it comes to the system. Along with places still banning homosexual marriage, clinging to ignorant traditions tied to a belief system, which shouldn't really be tied into the government (IE separation of church and state) - the discord lies primarily in that these marriages are still treated differently via system, instead of being recognized that marriage, as far as between two people, is about love, compassion, and commitment.
The equal sign you have seen floating around is a banner for the cause, a deeper symbol not just for homosexuality, but a true balance for the people, to allowed to be who they are without discrimination via misunderstanding, or the sheer ignorance of others who deny themselves to elevate such an understanding.
I am a pansexual, and I support this cause.

Military got me booooored!

I'm bored. There is nothing here to do. I'm only here for paperwork, and at least they're paying me while I answer phones and run messages.
Should have 3-4 grand in the pocket once I'm finished getting my Chapter 10 - then I can finally be done with the military and go on to do what I love for the rest of my life.

ATTENTION MUSIC PRODUCERS - DOWN MIXING TIPS (SHARE FOR NOM)
Posted 12 years agoI'm taking it upon myself to share some knowledge out there to aspiring music producers like myself!
Here are some quick key notes I keep in mind when working on a down mix. For your learning pleasure, give them a try, compare results!
Share this with anybody else you think might find it useful!
SUB - The lowest portion of your track. Sub frequencies are lower than kicks and can be tricky, especially since they will tend to use more volume than a kick. I usually aim a single 20-100hz sub frequency to hit no higher than -18db. Lower frequencies for your sub, based on notes, you may want to try and go as low as -24db. The sub area is one that requires a very precise automation, but focus in this area will pay off when your track starts gaining strong feeling when played back.
KICK - Most tracks will have some form of a kick percussion in them, even in classical music they use a timpani for the low rumbling buildup. In the mix down, this is considered the loudest sound you'll have, as measured by how much volume it is going to use up on the master channel. I try to aim the peak of my kicks to hit no higher than -8db. Remember that a kick starts at a higher area of the spectrum, and commits downward towards a sub frequency. Balancing this with the sub will be probably the most tedious portion of basic down mixing.
SNARE - Following most kicks will be percussion that has more punch to it. A common mistake is to try and match it with the strength of the kick. However, most snares are found to be perhaps -1 to -3db less than a kick. This is to prevent possible stacked impact sounds, as if two percussive elements hit simultaneously, it'll be louder, snappier, and sometimes harsh on the ears at certain volumes. I try to aim the peak of my snares between -12db and -10db. This gives room to add some gain on the EQ for punchier snares. These share similarly with kicks, in starting high and committing closer to the kick frequencies. This may be tedious to balance with the Kick and the Sub.
LOW MID - These are what most people refer to as "the bass" of a track. All those wub wobs and yoi yois. This is not the case. In fact, this is a frequency that finds itself floating over sub bass frequencies in "the drop", so it tends to sound thicker, and is usually set between 300 - 500Hz. A key here is to EQ cut everything below 300hz on these sounds and let it float with the sub to mimic it's lower end. I try to rest anything in this frequency somewhere around -18 to -24db, matching it along the SUB volume for thicker sounds and richer sounds. This is where basic SAWS hit.
MID - From roughly 500Hz to 1.0Khz, this is your basic synth area. Proper EQing in this area can be done to sharpen up LOW MID sounds. I try to pull these a little further from sub frequencies, and aim them around -21 to -28db.
HIGH MID - From 1.0Khz to 3.0Khz, this is where you'll find more tones like a piano and roughly the initial impact of most sounds in their striking. Proper EQing in this area can sharpen MID sounds and add more pluck or impact. The higher the frequency, the less volume they will take up, so in this area, we can risk using more volume on this section. I try to place these between -18 and -24db.
PADS / ELEMENTS - 3Khz to 10Khz is an area to I use to bring back clarity into the track. We can use more volume here and bend a lot of frequencies to shape and sharpen sounds in the lower frequencies. In this section, depending on the frequency, we can peak things around -12 to -18.
EXCESS - 10Khz is generally a runoff area for white noise, reverb and the ambiance carefully placed just right in between parts of your track. It may share some of the higher sounds in PADS and ELEMENTS in areas closer to 10Khz. The rest of the section doesn't really call for any specific dB placement on our mixing, but most sounds in this basic mix down will probably bleed off into this region around -36 to INF, depending on their volume.
That's a basic rundown for down mixing. Your track will probably sound a bit quiet, but that's the point. You want to mix at lower volumes.
Brickwall Limiting (a common term in music production) can be used to bring your sounds out from this low volume, as well as glue everything you are mixing together a bit more firmly together so that things sound clean. punchy, and well mixed. I usually place a Brickwall Limiter on a SEND (or RETURN) track, and tweak it into channels individually for optimal mixing.

PROJECT NETHERSOUND
Posted 12 years agoFor those of you interested in Downtempo styles of music - I am conducting a collaboration album open to any producers who would like to contribute to it.
The purpose is to bring more exposure to the subtle sounds, and draws you closer to Ohm, the ultimate sound of everything of both silence, noise, and everything in between.
This has just started, so if you're trying to get in on it, I'd ask you to please repost this in a journal of your own to get more exposure out there. ;3

Posted 12 years agoOK - So here I am on the bus ride home from Anthrocon 2012 with eyes wide open for the horizon. It has been a long time since my last really huge embrace of furry life and being a part of it. The moment I got off the bus last Thursday and just saw the tails, the ears, the suits, the love and shenanigans, I really felt home and snug.
(And this was really meaningful, especially because I found out on my way to AC that I was technically homeless. This of course has been remedied, I'm moving into a new apartment next weekend.)
This weekend was full of all sorts of awesomeness and shenanigans.
FRIENDS / FAMILY
It was simply AMAZING to see everyone I've missed for so long once again and to just enjoy even the most simplest of moments in whether a quick hug, sitting down and having lunch with, or smoking hookah on the roof of the convention center. I quickly was thrown into complete zen by this stimulation. <3 I hope in the future, we can find more ways of doing this more frequently (damn money keeping us apart!)

You know who you are - pretty much everyone I ended up hanging out with and getting into all sorts of awesome times with (and wrecking my feet with, on and off the dance floor) throughout the entire convention. It was so great to finally hang, especially in meeting the lot of you who I haven't had the pleasure of being in the company of before this past weekend. <3

<3 RENARD <3 - I finally have had the pleasure of meeting my #1 idol, the very avatar of what inspired me to start producing music - IN PERSON. Coolest guy you could ever meet!!! I got to tell him my story along with several others of just the chain reaction of inspiration and movement he's started. It was simply a most awesome experience.
And nothing tops this weekend more than to hear him LIVE on that BIG FUCKING SYSTEM <3 I swear, I probably could have had a concussion had I raged any harder. I was transmogrified by the entire experience of that show, let alone this weekend.

(And this was really meaningful, especially because I found out on my way to AC that I was technically homeless. This of course has been remedied, I'm moving into a new apartment next weekend.)
This weekend was full of all sorts of awesomeness and shenanigans.
FRIENDS / FAMILY
It was simply AMAZING to see everyone I've missed for so long once again and to just enjoy even the most simplest of moments in whether a quick hug, sitting down and having lunch with, or smoking hookah on the roof of the convention center. I quickly was thrown into complete zen by this stimulation. <3 I hope in the future, we can find more ways of doing this more frequently (damn money keeping us apart!)

You know who you are - pretty much everyone I ended up hanging out with and getting into all sorts of awesome times with (and wrecking my feet with, on and off the dance floor) throughout the entire convention. It was so great to finally hang, especially in meeting the lot of you who I haven't had the pleasure of being in the company of before this past weekend. <3

I was looking forward to seeing and meeting a lot of people. Sadly, being one of 5000 , it's really hard to get to know everyone, or meet everyone. If you couldn't find me or I couldn't find you - I'm as bummed out about it as you probably are! There will be other chances! What the fuck did I just do this weekend? Jeez. It was just one big ball of fun that couldn't stop! The dealers room was insanity! 2 GRYPHON was maniacally funny! The shenanigans - OH THE SHENANIGANS! (and that aroma of booze) xD SOOO FUUUNNNNN!!!

<3 RENARD <3 - I finally have had the pleasure of meeting my #1 idol, the very avatar of what inspired me to start producing music - IN PERSON. Coolest guy you could ever meet!!! I got to tell him my story along with several others of just the chain reaction of inspiration and movement he's started. It was simply a most awesome experience.
And nothing tops this weekend more than to hear him LIVE on that BIG FUCKING SYSTEM <3 I swear, I probably could have had a concussion had I raged any harder. I was transmogrified by the entire experience of that show, let alone this weekend.
