Commission update
Posted 9 years agoGood news, I've been back on track with commission work for the past week! I haven't gotten around to uploading any of it, so expect a ton of stuff to go up all at once at some point. As always, feel free to check in with me on your commission status. I'm hoping to have all owed work sent off within a month.
Life is still a little crazy, but things are looking up. Thank you all so much for the patience and support you've shown me, it's been a tough month, but I think everything will be okay. <3

RMFC and things
Posted 9 years agoHey all, I returned from having an awesome time at RMFC on Monday and then spent the rest of this week exhausted and jetlagged, so I'm finally getting back on track today. Hello to all my new watchers, and thank you for making my con amazing :D
I was going to write up a more detailed con report but I need to get back to work on things, so commission updates will be forthcoming both for people who were in the last online batch and those that I didn't finish at the con. RMFC folks, watch for an email/text, whichever you provided me. If you don't see anything from me within the next day or so, I may have wrongly interpreted your handrwriting so poke me at cthulhuisawake[at]gmail.com and let me know which person you are!

Cool artist you should commission!
Posted 9 years agoRMFC and commission updates
Posted 9 years agoHey guys, I'm still working through a pretty major life upheaval, but I'm starting to get back on track with my commission queue finally. Thank you all for your patience, you are lovely people <3
I'm likely going to stay closed for a long while after I finish off this batch, aside from work I take at cons, since I need to make some big scary changes over the next few months. I do have plans to still attend FWA next year, since I already paid for my dealer table, and depending on how things go I may be attending some west coast cons as well. I don't know for sure if I'm going to continue taking commissions online anymore, at least not on a full-time basis, but I'm still figuring that out.
In other news, I'm going to be at RMFC next weekend with a dealer table next to the wonderful and amazingly talented kuroseishin, and will also have several panels in the art show, so if you're going to be there, come say hi! I will be taking badge and sketch commissions, and also selling my dinosaur charms. I think the change of scenery and meeting new people will help me get the creativity flowing again :)

Commission delays & life stuff
Posted 9 years agoI just want to let everyone who is currently in my commission queue know that a sudden major life event has come up, and things are going to be delayed by a couple of weeks.
I've already contacted a few people whose commissions are most significantly affected, but if you haven't heard from me and would like more information on where things stand, please feel free to note or email me. I am open to issuing refunds if the wait is not acceptable, but I intend to do my best to minimize the impact this has on my work. As mentioned, it shouldn't be more than a couple of extra weeks, I just need to make a bit more room in my schedule to cope with personal things.
Thanks so much for your understanding, and I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

YCH?
Posted 9 years agoSo I've never done a YCH before, and I was curious if that was something that people would be interested in! I enjoy coming up with poses and detailed backgrounds, so it could be fun to make something really crazy and see how it goes.
Any feedback I can get on whether this idea appeals to anyone, and suggestions on the kind of thing you would be looking for in a YCH if you were to bid on one would be much appreciated!

Posted 9 years agoWhere are you staying?
I... honestly have no idea. Whatever the main hotel is, I guess, maybe? I know it's a hotel room of some sort (I'm clearly not the mastermind behind planning this trip)
What day are you getting there?
Wednesday night, I think? Nice and early for extra whale shark viewing time!
How are you traveling?
12 hour car ride ;_;
Who will you be rooming with?
What is the best way to find you?
At my table in the artist alley! I have no idea where I'll be wandering around after hours, so look for me while I'm staying still
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Nope!
What do you look like?
Small, glasses, head shaved on one side and mess of bright colors on the other(exact colors TBD). Will be wearing geeky t-shirts and probably looking overwhelmed.
Will you be suiting?
Probably not
Do you do free art?
No
Do you do trades?
Depends how drunk I am (quality not guaranteed)
Do you do badges?
Hell yes! Hit me up at my table, or pre-order right now: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15909142/
What is your gender?
None. They/them pronouns please
How tall are you?
4'11
Can I talk to you?
Yes, please do! If I'm at my table, try to be respectful of other customers so I can continue doing business, but I am happy to chat with people!
Can I touch you?
Ask first, and don't take it personally if I say no, I am not a very touchy person unless you're a close friend
Can I visit your room?
Probably not
Can I buy you drinks?
Only if we already know each other
Can I give you stuff?
I like stuff
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Only if I initiate, as mentioned above, I'm not big on touching
Are you nice?
I try!
Do you have an artist table?
Yes! I'll be in the artist alley ALL DAY EVERY DAY
Will you be going to parties?
Doubt it, I'm an awkward hermit
Will you be performing?
I'll be doing my frazzled overcaffeinated artist routine at my table if that counts
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Yell "BUTTS" at the top of your lungs and flail madly
Or approach me and say hi, whichever you prefer! I go by Ash or dinobutt, so if you yell either of those in my general direction I will probably notice
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
At my table drawing stuff!
What/where will you be eating?
I have severe dietary restrictions and will likely be mostly eating food I brought unless I luck out and find options that won't make me sick. Please do not invite me out for/give me food unless you know me well enough to know what's safe for me to eat, I'll just feel stressed and awkward about it.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Only if you already know me or the people I'm hanging out with
Can I look in your sketchbook?
I won't have a proper sketchbook with me, I tend to draw on loose sheets of paper or pads with removable pages, so there is nothing to look at but whatever I have laid out in front of me while I work!
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
See above, but feel free to draw stuff for me anyway!
Can I take your picture?
Nooooo nononono no nope
What are your goal(s) for the con this year?
Sell all the things, see friends and make new ones, and not get sick!

TOS update
Posted 10 years agoI've been sick, so I'm a little behind on work and correspondence. I'm working on catching up now, but I'm still feeling pretty gross so things are going to be a little slow for a few more days. While miserably curled up on the couch rewatching Star Trek Voyager for the 6345th time, I did a big update of my terms of service. If you plan on commissioning me at some point, please give these a read just to make sure we're on the same page:
http://spotted-leopard.com/tos.html
I mostly wanted to clear up some things about sketch commissions vs. flat/full color, revisions, and how to handle high resolution files, since I've encountered some confusion about that lately.
Everyone should read the terms in full before commissioning me, but tl;dr the reason sketch commissions are significantly cheaper than those with lineart even though they're often pretty polished is that you're only getting a low-res image. The size you see them in my gallery is pretty much what you get, sometimes it'll be 10-20% bigger but that's about it. That is the size I draw them at. There are also no WIPs for sketches, and revisions are only available if I messed something up, so be specific about what you want and double check your references for accuracy!
Another problem I keep discovering is that people are uploading the high-res version of their commission. PLEASE DON'T DO THAT. That is for your eyes only! I provide a scaled down version for a reason. If you think it's not big enough, just tell me and I'll gladly provide a bigger one that we're both comfortable with. Finding the big versions reposted to places like e621 where anyone can just download it and make unauthorized prints is really upsetting and potentially harmful to my business. I'm going to try to make this clearer when I send off finished commissions, but please keep it in mind, and if you've done this, I would really appreciate it if you could swap the smaller file in as soon as possible.
Thanks for reading! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me! I'm open to suggestions/critique on the updated terms in case something sounds weird. I wrote them while sick and may well have overlooked things or phrased them badly.

Patreon is live!
Posted 10 years agoI'm a little nervous about this, but it's finally gone live!
Check out the preview of my first Patreon piece here!
http://www.patreon.com/dinobutt
http://www.patreon.com/dinobutt
http://www.patreon.com/dinobutt
I know some people are worried about Patreon for one reason or another, but rest assured that I still plan on uploading all my commission work in my free galleries as well! The only thing that's Patreon-exclusive will be nude versions of pieces I create solely for that purpose, and WIP sketches(I do post some of those on Twitter though!). They will all be posted here censored or clothed for everyone's enjoyment!
One thing I'm a little concerned about is trying to advertise Patreon posts to both of my galleries, since there is a lot of overlap, but not everyone watches both. I don't want to just have a ton of duplicate posts, but I want to make sure everyone sees that it's available. Suggestions for how to approach that are very welcome!
Please note: this is NOT a space to share your opinions on Patreon, there are plenty of other venues for that discussion elsewhere on the internet. If you have any specific concerns, feel free to contact my privately. If you don't want to contribute, that's perfectly fine! It's certainly not for everyone. All public comments of that nature will be hidden to keep things on-topic. Thanks!

Where else to find/contact me
Posted 10 years agoIn light of the recent FA outage, I want to point out a few other places I can be found in case it happens again!
I'm Tethys on Weasyl
And Dinobutter on Twitter (some art, lots of stupid - you've been warned)
And of course I can always be contacted by email at cthulhuisawake[at]gmail.com
I'm thinking of making a Tumblr for art as well, but I am super lazy at updating things in general, so I haven't decided yet if it'll be worth it. Next round of commissions I think I'm going to start limiting contact to email only, since having notes on here seems to be a liability if anything bad happens. Luckily I organize my commission info on Trello, so I had all the refs and instructions saved, but being unable to contact people with WIPs and questions makes me anxious :x
I will still be updating FA as usual, I'll just be making an effort to keep Weasyl up to date as well, and I encourage everyone watching me who has an account there to watch both, just in case!

Life, commissions, and price changes
Posted 10 years agoFirst of all, the move went well! We're a little exhausted from the whole ordeal, but we love our new apartment so much. We got a new couch in last night and it's really starting to look like a real living space. The kitchen is so huge and nicely laid out, which is awesome since I love to cook! But most importantly, my studio is an amazing work space. I've covered the walls in pretty things for inspiration, and there's actual room for me to do traditional art! I have a whole table to draw at! I'm so excited, I've been so much more productive just in the few days that I've been here.
Now on to commission news! I'll be reopening tomorrow around noon EST, and I've made a few small price increases. My living expenses are a little higher post-move, so every little bit helps to keep me on top of my bills.
I've updated my commission info page with new prices and examples!
I'll also be launching a Patreon within the next week or so to help fund some sexy projects I think many of you might enjoy, so look out for that ;) I'll have more details on that soon!

Moving!
Posted 10 years agoThis weekend xavierfoxshandi and I will be moving to a new apartment about 25 minutes away from where we currently live. It's going to be much nicer than here, and most importantly, I'm going to have my own studio room! Which likely means I'll be a lot more productive and motivated than I am in my tiny shoebox of a bedroom that's 80% bed, and I'll have much more space to work on traditional art. I'm very excited! I can't wait to have a proper place to paint instead of doing it on my lap and ruining all my clothes, yay!
I won't be contactable on Friday or Saturday, since we won't have internet set up. I can check email on my phone but with the whole moving process going on I suspect I'll be too busy to respond to anything unless it's particularly urgent. I'll be back to business on Monday though, and I plan on opening commissions by the end of next week!
