Let me guess, they want to spend the money on a football stadium.

I thought teachers were paid salary, so that even in an event like this you'd still get paid. That totally blows that you'll lose pay for something outside of your control.

it’s more of an assumption based on conversations i’ve had with other teachers—so hopefully it’s false! we are “salaried”in theory, but if i didn’t have sick leave and had to use personal or annual leave, I get paid only a fraction of my salary. Since we don’t have true maternity leave in my district, I ended up using 60 sick/personal leave days so i could take off 12 weeks, which leaves me with pocket change if we shut down. 🙃 This is more of a precaution on my part, planning for “what if’s!” i’ll get paid eventually, but my guess is we would probably have to make the days up somewhere and, if so, that’s when i’d get the rest of what’s lost!

I have to say, it's shameful how poorly teachers are treated with pay and sick leave and all that. You have such an important job, yet people want to give you McDonalds wages and benefits. I know it doesn't help you any, but for what it's worth, at the primary election last Tuesday I voted in favor of an increased millage for the school district. Hopefully it'll pass and translate into increased teacher pay.

My bfs school has closed for at least 2 weeks and they're trying to do everything remotely which they were not prepared for. And since hes in the IT department hes losing his mind right now. As lousy as the situation is I would relish the opportunity to commission you again so to the form I go.
