do NOT use the shinies system FOR COMMISSIONS
5 years ago
do not do this.
You will not be protected as a seller OR buyer under paypal's user agreement/tos. paypal does not refund gift transactions.
any artist who tells you to send a payment as a GIFT transaction is TO BE AVOIDED AND REPORTED, as they are trying to avoid paypal's taxes [violating their rules] as well as making sure that you cannot get a refund if they decide to skip town
any artist who offers you commissions from this service is to be avoided as well. do not let yourself be scammed! And inform the artists that this may get both yours and their paypal suspended/investigated for further suspected activity of breaching use agreement as well as potential fraud.
this also extends to services like 'ko-fi'. don't buy commissions through ko-fi. If an artist wants to accept commissions, they can do it the TRUSTED way through paypal where both you and the seller are protected.

this also lets paypal know that you take commissions on FA and FA already has a bad reputation with Paypal. it's better to ask for a direct donation link instead of a middleman service like FA's shinies system or ko-fi.
stay safe and informed guys

I'm especially concerned about associating tips with the same account artists may take adult commissions on-- PayPal's going to have that information. They'll be able to infer.
You're better off using a service like https://artconomy.com/ to take payments/orders . It was built with adult and clean artists both in mind.
hence why patreon is still a thing.
unless you're trying to commission that stuff
i also don't like that you only receive payment after work has been completed on that site. there's no pay before work is done. been scammed too many times, not worth the risk. :p
in the early days there was a time when, if you marked your patreon as nsfw, patrons could not use paypal to pay for it, they could only use credit card. this has changed now. paypal is well aware patreon users use their services to pay for nsfw content on patreon
that's not to say advertise that you accept nsfw through paypal, as it is VERY variable.
This is technically also true with PayPal since you can lose a dispute with them and then end up with an account imbalance they'll collect on. The money does end up in your bank faster, but in both cases your money isn't settled until after the work is done. In both cases your payment isn't final, but the approach is different.
With Artconomy, you won't end up surprised, which is distinct. It makes it clear under what conditions the money can be contested (hint: There aren't many)
"paypal bans only illegal porn like incest, bestiality, child shit, etc.
hence why patreon is still a thing."
https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp.....ervices-FAQ569
According to their own policy, digital sexual content isn't permitted to be sold with PayPal.
Patreon appears to have made a special deal for the "adult content", but it's still limited. It doesn't officially support porn. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/.....-adult-content
Which means anyone using it for the purpose is in limbo at the moment.
patreon talk specifically about not allowing pornographic material, REAL IMAGES, which paypal doesn't allow either.
that does not involve drawings [exception of illegal content like bestiality, child porn, incest, etc]. hence why patreon is allowed to use paypal for this.
However, PayPal's policy still forbids it:
"We don’t permit PayPal account holders to buy or sell:
Sexually oriented digital goods or content delivered through a digital medium. Downloadable pictures or videos and website subscriptions are examples of digital goods."
So, as far as I can tell anyone using PayPal for selling furry porn is still in limbo.
hence, it's not banned.
You may be right, but I'm still skeptical of PayPal.
however, this tip jar isn't a tip jar if you're trying to pay commissions through it and actively avoid paypal's fees, which patreon did not avoid.
this fa system only involves real money from person to person
it just makes it one step easier to donate to people
Thanks for the heads up.
Also i think it's Ko-fi, but yeah tip jars should just stay as tip jars.
