I've had a few in my time too and my husband has had one harass him several times regarding this. Totally with you, if I want art I go to an artist. I think they are scammers too.

I 100% feel that! I've been getting those as well. I didn't even think about putting that on my profile until you said something. Maybe I won't get approached by those scammers now.

I've gotten it a couple times, but it's always been here on FA through notes. I've just ignored them. Sorry to hear that they're trying to get to you on other platforms. Definitely share the same feelings about them.

Don't make excuses. Force them to do trivia on "your wonderful characters I want to draw". Incists they stick to the website they are contacting you on - these scammers want to give fake links that will hack your accounts. Do that enough and they will F off in a fun way.

Is this actually a thing? I have always gone to the artist if I want a commission. Or make a post somewhere stating that I'm looking. I'm surprised this ever works for anyone.

Yes, they're unfortunately a thing. The likeliness is greatly increased if you happen to be in a large furry Discord server. It starts off with a friend request and innocuous messages, typically commenting about your character.

Oh! I have had random friend requests. I ignore anyone who only sends a "hey" or nothing at all. Guess that's why I don't get them. Actually had to leave a couple servers because I was just getting several random friend requests a day.

Yeah I had quite a few of those too. Given that I am currently not able to splurge due to money issues, I don't even need an excuse. I just say I don't have the cash for it.

They're very annoying. As you said, it starts with compliments of your fursona and builds from there. I usually ask "What is it about my fursona that interested you?" or something along those lines to suss the genuine conversation from the fakes.

I haven't gotten much recently though. I wonder if it is because I haven't gotten much art, period.
