The municipality of Capitão Leônidas Marques (15,887 inhabitants in 2021;
27,575 ha) is located 500 km west of Curitiba.
The flag and arms of
Capitão Leônidas Marques are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 499 promulgated on
10 May 1991.
Article 3.
The municipal flag of Capitão Leônidas Marques
was designed by vexillologist and heraldist Reynaldo Valascki.
Article 4.
The municipal flag of Capitão Leônidas Marques, in proportions 14 units in width
on 20 units in length, is composed of a celestial blue (azure) rectangle charged
in the center with a white (argent) pentagon inscribing the municipal coat of
arms.
�1. The proportions of the municipal flag of Capitão Leônidas Marques
are those of the national flag.
�2. The flag's obverse and reverse shall be
identical.
�3. In compliance with good style in vexillology and heraldry, the
design of the municipal flag is very simple so that anyone can reproduce it.
Article 5.
The celestial blue color represents the pleasant sky that
covers the whole territory of the municipality; it is the heraldic symbol of
justice, nobleness, praise, perseverance, zeal, sweetness, dignity, vigilance,
perfection, and incorruptible firmness (Guelfi, 64; As�ncia, 63; Ronchetti,
126).
The white (argent) color is the symbol of peace, friendship, purity,
innocence, beauty, felicity, integrity, equity, and truth (Guelfi, 51; As�ncio,
61).
The municipality's coat of arms placed in the center of the municipal
flag represents the municipal government; the center of the flag's rectangle
where is applied the municipal coat of arms represents the town proper as the
seat of the municipality and the municipal power expanding to all parts of its
territory.
Article 21.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Capitão
Leônidas Marques was designed by vexillologist and heraldist Reynaldo Valascki.
Article 22.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Capitão Leônidas
Marques is composed of a shield in Portuguese shape.
a) The Portuguese
classical shield used to represent the arms of the municipality has its
Portuguese origin during the struggle against Moors and was featured on
Portuguese armorials, as part of domain's heraldry, this style having been
inherited in Brazilian heraldry to evoke the colonizing race and main builder of
the nation.
b) The mural crown surmounting the field is composed of eight
towers, only five of them visible in perspective view and five red (gules)
stars.
c) The field of the shield is composed in its upper part of an
escutcheon and in its lower part of a cross.
d) The lower left quarter of the
field of the shield features vast cropped and montainous areas, as well as the
municipality's beautiful tobacco plantations.
e) The right quarter features
an inkpot, a terrestrial globe and a book, in the background a classroom with
the map of Paraná.
f) In the shield's center a white (argent) pentagon
charged in the center with a black star inscribing the portrait of Captain
Leônidas Marques, the town's namesake.
g) Beneath the two quarters of the
upper part two sinuous lines on each side, representing rivers Iguaçu, Andrada,
Gonçalves Dias, and Monteiro Lobato, as well as other streams watering the
municipal territory.
h) Beneath the left quarter of the lower part, a farmer
on a tractor preparing the rich soil for agriculture.
i) Right of the
shield's field in the lower part beautiful mountains, beautiful plains and
cattle resources existing in the municipality.
j) As supporters, right
branches of bean and maize, left, soybean and wheat plants, in the center above
the scroll cotton plants.
k) A red (gules) scroll inscribed with the
municipality's name "Capitão Leônidas Marques" surrounded left by day "28" and
month "04", right by year "1984", which represents the day, month and year of
the municipality's political emancipation.
Article 23.
The shield in
Portuguese style was adopted because it is most suitable to have heraldic
charges deigned with larger size and balance with the whole design.
a) The
mural crown surmounting the shield is the universal symbol of domains; yellow
(or), it classifies a 3rd rank town, that is, the seat of a municipality.
b)
The red star symbol according to the Law of Heraldry is consistent with the
attributes of the pioneers, pathfinders of the community leaders.
c) The
cross symbolizes religious spirit and the patron saint, Our lady of the Salette.
d) Green (vert) is a symbol of hope and of agricultural resources in the
municipality.
e) The classroom symbolizes cultural education in the
municipality.
f) White is a symbol of peace, friendship, purity, innocence,
beauty, felicity, integrity, equity and truth (Guelfi, 51; As�ncio, 63).
g)
Blue is the heraldic symbol of justice, nobleness, praise, perseverance, zeal,
sweetness, dignity, vigilance, perfection, and incorruptible firmness.
h) The
dark blue star symbolically represents the municipality of Capitão Leônidas
Marques; it is also a symbol of self-determination, safe guidance and aspiration
to higher ideals and sublime feats.
i) The figure in the star's center
represents the municipality's patron saint.
j) The sinuous lines symbolize
the rivers covering the soil of the municipal territory.
k) The landscape
symbolizes the agricultural resources of the municipal territory, while the
tractor symbolizes mechanized cropping in the municipality.
m) The plants
used as supporters [...] symbolize the municipality's main crops, according to
official data collected in the last statistical survey.
n) The red scroll
specifically symbolizes the Roman cloak used to cover Jesus Christ after the
flagellation. Red is a symbol of audacity, intrepidity, courage, valiance,
valor, dedication, and love, the attributes of pioneers.
o) The scroll is
inscribed in Franklin Gothic font, black (sable), with the day, month and year,
"28.04.1964" of emancipation of the municipality by Law No. 4,854.
