  • Artisan Pony Crafts Compilation #24

Some of the very best pieces I've seen out of crafts combine not only expert craftsmanship but a superb use of lighting and environment to give more life to their work! Frozen certainly has both in spades and I applaud him on another great piece.

  • Story: Valor is Magic (Update - Part 14!)

[Adventure][Dark] "Most stories that bring war to Equestria completely wreck the 'feel' of the show's setting. Thankfully, this is not most war fanfics; I was impressed at every turn how well this story pulls off its difficult concept. This is one to keep an eye on." -Pre-reader who likes sky pirates

    Author: NotSoSubtle
Description: Some lessons are too big for one letter. Others are so important that they need to be shared with ponies everywhere. When these two come together, Twilight Sparkle tries something new.

    She writes a book.
    ---
Everypony remembers exactly what they were doing when they first found out about the griffin invasion. Many saw it as a growing shadow that threatened to overtake all of Equestria. To those in the towns and cities that would become the front lines, it was a terror made real. With Canterlot in flames and Princess Celestia injured, many wondered how anypony could make everything right again. I was among them.

    But we did it. Together.

These are my experiences and lessons learned during The Great Griffin Invasion, and it’s not just my story. War is a dark affair, but we can always learn something from the worst of times. In fact, we have to. The lessons are too costly to let them go to waste. And maybe, with a little help from this book, we won’t ever forget.

  • Story: Of Age (Update Complete!)

[Adventure] [Shipping] "A story that uses strong characterization to portray an unlikely heroine facing something which she does not know how to deal with... and also preventing a war."
    -Prereader 13

    Author: paleowriter
Description: When Rarity writes to Princess Celestia inquiring after how dragons age, she gets a plea for help in reply. A war is brewing, and Princess Celestia thinks Rarity's the one to stop it. Now, still completely uncertain what her feelings for Spike are or if they're even plausible, she's off to meet with his distant relatives to negotiate a truce between the dragons and the sea serpents before the world gets caught up in their destructive clash.

How frosty! I always did like ice levels, ice bosses, and ice caves.   I blame living in the desert on that.

  • Poll Results: Which Pony's Parents Do You Want to See?

Did I accidently put Luna in this poll? I knew I  was forgetting something when I made it.  I really need to just make Luna Daily at this point.    And look at the second best blue pony in there.  She didn't get much love at all.  Poor girl.

In other news, it looks like the new layout has way more of you voting on these.   It's kind of amazing how few people actually scroll down past the top of the site.

Next poll: I'm digging for one, stay tuned!

  • Comic Followup - The Big Mac Arc - Issue #9

While we wait for the episodes to get going again, I've decided to revive the old Episode Followup style posts, focusing on the monthly comic releases instead.   For those that aren't sure what exactly the point of this post is, a bit of explanation is probably in order!  For season three, and a good portion of season two, we ran posts highlighting all of the interesting parts in episodes, from background references to general standout scenes.  These posts are not meant to review, but instead, are here to help you catch up on what you may have missed, with a bit of opinion/editorial nonsense thrown in. If you want an example, head on over to the followup section, also found in the "news" tab of the navigation bar up top.

So here is me experimenting on it with the official comic series, or more specifically, the recent Big Mac arc that released a while back.  As a pony who isn't usually known for his popularity and witty characterization, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the guy.    Imagine my amazement when he lived the episode Applejack probably should have had all along!

Jokes about Applesapplesapples aside, this two-parter was a blast to dig through, with more references and fanon/canon mashups than any of the previous ones.  Chances are I'm going to miss a bunch, but that's what the comments are for!   If I don't notice something, drop it down there.

Without further adieu, head on down below the break for my followup on part one of the Big Mac arc.  And if you haven't read it yet, avoid this like the plague and go do that.  This entire post is spoilers.

  • SFM Wind Effects Tutorial

Rainbow Dash looks like shes going to POUNCE the mouse pointer.  Unfortunately this is not the case.  For all you SFM people out there, or those curious about joining the world of SFM, Argodaemon has released a tutorial on how to make manes all windy.  Head on down below the break to check it out!

  • FiMpressions: The Best Night Ever

This pony reminds me of David Blane combined with Leonardo da Vinci or something. Bronycurious has continued his FiMpressions series with a bit of Best Night Ever.   I remember the song being stuck in my head for a good three months.    He's saying it's the best finale, but what do you all think?  It definitely left the biggest impact for me, but that was due to the crushing blow of no more pony for the next half a year.   I was desensatized to pony haitus once season 2's ending rolled around.   Chrysalis and the villain song made the royal wedding my personal top tier though.

Anyway i'll stop blabbering, hit it up below the break.

  • Everything Wrong With Swarm of the Century in 3 Minutes or Less

I'm awake.  Are you awake? Lets watch some Swarm of the Century Cinemasins parody stuff while we are all awake.  Head on down below the break for it as always.

  • Nightly Roundup #766

I didn't even make the connection that these two were the stars of Don't Mine at Night until about a week after the pilot for Button's Adventures.  They aren't a bad couple all things considered.

It's roundup time! Get your usual stuff below the break.

  • Newbie Artist Training Grounds III - Day 30

Hey, everybody! We're here! This is it: the dawn of our very last day of art! Everyone, you've all come so far, run such a long race. And you're here now, so congratulations! Crossing the line tonight is a herd that's 237 ponies strong, blowing past the line with style and creating a grand total of 9864 images. My gosh, look how close we are! You're all A's in my book!

Tomorrow marks our closing ceremonies. We'll have one last gallery to look at, some goodbyes to say, and we'll go our separate ways once again to pursue our dreams in the way we see fit. And I won't lie, it's a bittersweet feeling. I am so immensely proud of everyone that my heart feels like it could burst. But we can't keep this up forever, and I can't keep you from bigger and better things just to make some image totals climb a little bit higher. We're coming round the final bend, everyone. One more day, and you are officially graduates of the Newbie Artist Training Grounds. Puff out your chests, and feel that pride.

I think it's just incredible how big every gallery remains so stunningly huge, even through 29 days of toil and grind. You know there's not been a single day in this event so far that's dropped below 200 entries? Not one! And I just... I can't think of any way to say it that's more wonderful than that. Look at what you guys can do. Can you hear the thundering sound of hooves, racing for the goal line? Can you see the tired smiles, the blood and sweat and tears that mark a hard won and well deserved victory? Well, pull up a chair and check it out for yourself. 'Cause it's a race. It's a chase. So go ahead and feed your... um... eyes. I lost that one at the end.

I can hear your hearts pounding. I know what you clamor for! "A theme, a theme, my kingdom for one last theme! And also a horse!" Well, pony. Richard III didn't know where it was at. But never mind him, he's dead. You want a theme, and you want it now. And here's the fun part: you have them all already! This is my favorite part of every Training Grounds; now is the time to take a small step out and compare how far you've come from where you started. So tonight, Draw any previous theme/Draw every previous theme! Submit all entries here by 11:59 PM, Pacific time on Saturday, September 14.

And yes, today marks a chance to submit a makeup entry if you've missed any days. The limiters have been released, and you are encouraged to draw as many pictures as you think you can manage! Don't think it's impossible: every year we get more than one person who manages to dump a full set on me, either in one image or several. If you need a quick list of all the themes, I've made a list for you here. Come on, show me what you're made of: this is the last hurrah!
