Starts and development - what are tabletop games?

Tabletop games are classic strategy-society games that can look back on a long tradition. Today's games can be described as a further development of Baron von Reisswitz's "war game" from the 19th century. Prussian officers were taught strategy with these re-enacted battles on a reduced scale.

Today's players compete with various miniatures on the playing field, which is the size of a table. With the help of special dice and a tape measure, the figures are moved and can perform certain actions. Hills, buildings or forests are often built on the playing fields. The player who can occupy a certain terrain, achieve strategic goals or remove the opponent's pieces from the table wins. Some veterans remember: the early tabletop games were Demonworld and Battletech. The market leader today is Games Workshop with the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar game systems. In the meantime, there are tabletop games set in many different fictional worlds.
