Chicken strips are a go-to nostalgic dinner for kids and adults alike (we don’t judge!). While we understand relying on frozen chicken or takeout, there’s something extra special about making chicken strips homemade. This fried version not only elevates this classic meal for adults, but is an easy kid-friendly dinner that will get everyone rushing to the dinner table.
Make some homemade fries to go along with these strips and serve with ranch dressing, honey mustard, or ketchup (or Chick-fil-A sauce, anyone?), and you’ve got an upgraded classic on your hands that everyone will get excited about. Can’t get enough of the air fryer? Check out our air fryer chicken tenders if you’re looking to skip heating up any oil.

Ingredients
- 2
boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 1 1/2 lb.), sliced into 1/2" strips
- 2 cups
Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
- 4
large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup
all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp.
garlic powder
Vegetable oil, for frying
Ketchup and ranch, for serving
Directions
- Step 1Set up a breading station: Place breadcrumbs, eggs, and flour in 3 separate shallow bowls. Whisk garlic powder into eggs. Season breadcrumbs generously with salt and pepper.
- Step 2Coat chicken strips in flour, then dip in egg, then breadcrumbs, back in egg, then back in breadcrumbs.
- Step 3In a large dutch oven, heat 2" oil to 325°. Set a rack over a baking sheet and line with paper towels.
- Step 4Fry chicken, in batches, turning once, until golden and an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part of each piece registers 160°, about 5 minutes.
- Step 5Transfer chicken to prepared rack and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
