Captions were supplied by TypeTogether. Unless otherwise noted, Veronika Burian and José Scaglione co-designed all the typefaces shown. “Back in 2008, after receiving a lot of positive feedback on our logotype, we decided to create a full sans serif type family based on it, which became Bree. The design, clearly influenced by handwriting, was conceived as a style that, at the time, was rather new: the upright italic. This means that the shapes of the letters resemble cursive writing, but have no cursive slant. The typeface immediately became very successful, probably because of its less-decorative-but-playful-enough nature. Our idea was to make a font family that is usable in text-intensive environments and has a good deal of personality. We designed the companion Bree Serif family in 2013. The characters maintain the original flavor of handwriting, but have a more subtle appearance for optimal editorial usage.”
