2014 Edinburgh Fringe
Liam Williams: Capitalism
Less pathetic now, Williams follows his Best Newcomer nominated debut with a free show about money. Let Edinburgh tremble. He's in Sheeps if you're a fan of them, though his solo stuff is a bit different tonally. If you like television he's done a few things for that: Russell Howard's Good News, Comedy Central At The Comedy Store, something for Channel 4. And if you're old, he's been on BBC Radio 4, like, three times. 'Beautifully crafted' ***** (Metro). 'A rather special stand-up' (Telegraph).

As the Edinburgh Fringe enters its second week shows that I'm hearing about can start to be divided into two distinct categories. The ones that publicists are pushing and the ones that critics and friends without a vested interest are starting to get genuinely excited about.

London Is Funny, 1st August 2014How to spend £30 at the Edinburgh Fringe
Expensive isn't it, the Fringe? What with those pesky opportunist landlords and those pesky twilight boozers.
London is Funny is sadly unable to intervene when it comes to sweeping rent controls, or alcohol licensing legislation, but LiF CAN help when it comes to having a cracking day of comedy without breaking the bank.

I'm not doing Edinburgh this year. In the meantime the following people are risking everything in the hope of public acclaim and artistic progress. They have my utmost admiration, and if you are up in Edinburgh do go and see them.

British Comedy Guide, 13th July 2014Edinburgh Fringe preview: Liam Williams
Williams' solo work falls somewhere between character comedy and confessional. Is he really such a dour northerner? Is his outlook really so bleak? It is hard to tell where truth ends and imagination starts.

Laugh Out London, 2nd July 2014More details
Less pathetic now, Best Newcomer Award Nominee Liam Williams returns following his widely-acclaimed debut to the Fringe with a free show about money.
A self-reflective introduction to British comedy's bright young thinker, Williams' debut was a down-beat promenade through casted optimisms, and personal shortcomings. Following two sold-out London runs, a UK tour, critical acclaim, and an Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nomination, Williams returns...
If you like television he's done a few things for that: Russell Howard's Good News, Comedy Central at the Comedy Store, something for Channel 4. And if you're old, he's been on BBC Radio 4, like, three times.
Capitalism shoots (just as firmly) from the other hip. Things are going well, Williams' chin is up, his mouth is beginning to turn upwards at the corners, and yet the monkey refuses to relinquish its grip on his back.
Within success and happiness there remains a space for inadequacy, and that is precisely where this show finds itself nestled. Williams continues on his existential journey, with anotably outward-looking hour. His attention has turned to economic struggle, societal obligation, apathy, malaise, and the implications of reaching quarter-life with one's brainintact. It's abrasive stuff, but with a spring in its step.
Williams recently wrote and starred in his own series of Channel 4's Comedy Blaps (featuring Alison Steadman, Charlotte Ritchie, and Duncan Preston). In 2013 he was named asone of GQ's 'Men of the next 25 years', appeared as the standup act on Russell Howard's Good News (BBC Three), as a guest on Phil & Alice's Lolz Lounge (BBC Radio 1) and featured in Jamie Demetriou's Comedy Blaps (Channel 4). In 2012 he appeared in Doctor Brown's Channel 4 pilot, as well as performing solo as part of BBC Comedy presents.
Elsewhere on the Fringe Liam appears in Sheeps: Wembley Previews.
