This was a perfect base for our stay in the Lake District. The hotel is charming and staff were friendly. Breakfast was huge and delicious. The absolute highlight was the daily cream tea with scones. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Excellent service from all staff members. Really nice breakfast. Booked a loft suite which was amazing. Spacious with private spa bathroom with whirlpool bath, steam room and sauna. Perfect for relaxing. Excellent location in the centre of Ambleside with many dining options and independent shops. Highly recommend

Not much. Food was sub par at best. The staff were the only saving grace. I’ve stayed at better equipped B&B’s Noisy room, no privacy, no heated bathroom floor, uncomfortably small bathroom. Ill appointed design layout of the bathroom. Walls so thin, I heard everything from my neighbours (kids) and constant foot traffic meant no privacy at all! The pub stinks of chlorine and affects the palate, so nothing can be enjoyed! Whoever designed this place, did it with only packing as much in a small place as possible and with no regard for the actual visitors. I wouldn’t stay here again even if you paid me! Staff were very good though and a shame they have to support this I’ll designed over priced forgettable spa. Not worth it at all at any price.

Howgill is located in Windermere, just 1.1 miles from World of Beatrix Potter and 23 miles from Derwentwater. Guests can go for a swim in the heated pool.
