Shokinkan is set in Yasugi, 27 km from Lake Shinji, 29 km from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, as well as 25 km from Mizuki Shigeru Museum. Great dinner service with lots of food. Vegetarian but was superb with alot of effort put into it. Breakfast was non-vegetarian and tasty. Service was good. As expected of a ryokan so don’t expect 5 star hotel quality but definitely comfortable and clean.

Situated in Gotsu, in a historic building, 13 km from Gotsu City General Citizen Center Milky Way Hall, Ryokan Nushiya is a ryokan with an open-air bath and garden. This was our fourth trip to Japan and we've stayed in many ryokans. This is one of our favorites. The space we stayed at was huge. It was a two-story stand alone building. The seats looked out onto the courtyard with a pond and a lot of trees, which was very peaceful. I'm usually not the type to stay in my hotel/ryokan all day, but this place tempted me to do so due to the serenity of the courtyard. There were two private onsen that were easy to access due to the small number of guests that stay here. The food was fabulous. While walking around one morning I found a hiking trail that led up to castle ruins. The next morning I hiked up to the ruins and down the other side and came out near the Moss Land.

Situated 27 km from Mizuki Shigeru Road, Ryokan Koyokan features accommodation in Yasugi with access to a public bath. Featuring mountain and garden views, this ryokan also includes free WiFi. A truly beautiful place to stay. The food was beyond anything that we had hoped for. The owners were very lovely and helpful. You are so close to the amazing temple that you can explore it with no one else around

El Hoshi Ryokan està situat a només 1 minut a peu de l'estació de tren JR de Tsuwano. Hoshi Ryokan is so good that staying there justifies the trip to Tsuwano all by itself. An immense tatami room (actually two, a bedroom and a sitting room) plus a veranda to sit and watch the world go by. The owners are extremely gentle and helpful (they picked us up from the station even if it is only just across the road, just because it was raining so hard) and the breakfast and dinner are well worth having, and not only because there are few other options in town. And you stay in a real family home, the way B&B used to be.

Set just 24 km from Lake Shinji, Saginoyusou offers accommodation in Yasugi with access to an open-air bath, a garden, as well as luggage storage space.

Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, Onsen Guest House Aobato no Su offers accommodation in Matsue, a few steps from Tamatsukuri Onsen. Free private parking is available on site. Amazing. There was free shuttle to the nearest JR station. We didn't book the shuttle beforehand but we were able to take it anyway. The breakfast was amazing and the location is very good. Very close to the bus stop which we had to take because JR operations were suspended due to heavy rain. Value was so good.

Featuring sea views, Mihokan offers accommodation with a garden, a terrace and a bar, around 11 km from Mizuki Shigeru Road. The staff we're very professional and everything was clean.

5.4 km from Lake Shinji in Matsue, Hotel Gyokusen features accommodation with access to a sauna, hot spring bath and public bath. This was a luxurious treat and we all enjoyed it from the welcome by the general manager, the hot spring bath, the food, the room. One of our group had a massage which was very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was an amazing buffet of Japanese and Western dishes. The hotel provided transport by shuttle bus to and from the hotel. Communications via booking.com worked well.

Located in Matsue, 11 km from Mizuki Shigeru Road and 30 km from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, Fukumakan provides a restaurant and sea views. Family accomodation with excellent value on beautiful spot. Fantastic sea food and very friendly approach. Wholeheartedly recommended. Thank you!

Noren Yado Meigetsu, a property with a garden, is set in Tsuwano, 1.9 km from Taikodani Inari Shrine, 1.7 km from Tsuwano Joushi, as well as 37 km from Ikoji Sesshu Garden. Very, very, very beautiful ryokan. The owner already greeted us at the entrance and was extremely friendly. The room was also beautiful and made you feel like living in Edo period Japan. The onsen was very relaxing, and after it, my partner was offered to wear a nice yukata for dinner. The food was extraordinary (although it could mostly not be adjusted for my admittedly picky partner, see below), both in terms of taste and in the way it was presented. I would definitely recommend this ryokan anytime to any traveller.
