To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We’re currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil, and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. United States of America3 keys necessary to get into the house. The locks were not easy to unlock and lock. Only one towel for two of us for 4 nights. Water for drinking ran out. No freezer for ice cream. No pot holder for oven use. No can opener in kitchen. Only one outlet in bedroom so you can’t hook up all chargers and have lamp work. The church directly behind the house had an event every night we stayed that was very loud. The host would not take us to the terminal as the owner had offered. It was 9 when we checked out and check out was at 11 and he gave the reason that there wasn’t enough time. Not what I would consider cooperative. The app said one amount and then they raised it when we arrived and wouldn’t accept any credit card.
Nice kitchen, bed was super comfortable. Had 2 AC units, plenty of space in bedroom, sofa in kitchen. Iron and board when requested. Nice closet to hang clothes up. Photos are accurate.

Costa RicaExceptionally friendly host, good internet connection (50mb download, 5mb upload), location can be serviced by Caribe Shuttle. I took the shuttle from Puerto Viejo at 8am, arrived at the apartment around 11:30 and returned to Costa Rica using the 12pm shuttle from Bocas (pickup time was 1:30pm). There is a little supermarket nearby but I'd bring my own food next time. Visa run February 2023.

GermanyThe hosts brother Luis was really nice. The kitchen is good equipped and you can park your vehicle inside. They provided free water and sanitary products. The WiFi is really good.
