Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We’re currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil, and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyA character of a host, such a positive contrast compared to those unpersonal chain hotels. Excellent value. Beautiful and large room, great breakfast. Highly recommended.

United States of AmericaIf anything, a place to dry clothes and a hair dryer would have been great. It's so humid that our clothes wouldn't dry and it would have been good to hang them on a string in the bathroom.
Don't be deceived by the facade, once we walked in, we were glad we had a reservation here. Ro, at the front desk, was soo welcoming. He gave us a lot of tips and guidance. He went out of his way to call a taxi for us and provided detailed guidance marking places of interest on a map. He kept telling us to feel at home...and we did! The room was way more spacious than we expected for our family of four. Two comfortable and clean double beds, a mini fridge, cable tv, a closet and safe, a fan, along with a little table and two chairs next to large windows with a beautiful view. The bathroom was clean and spacious. Breakfast is timed because the seating areas have great views and people will linger! But the breakfast itself was delicious - beautifully arranged sweet fruit, eggs, waffles, cereal, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Waffles with strawberry, syrup and chocolate syrup meant my teens were in heaven! Overall the breakfast left us feeling satiated the entire morning! There's a little kitchen with a stove, tea available throughout the day, and we were able to make fresh popcorn(kept for visitors) and enjoy it while hanging on swings on the terrace. The location itself is extremely central, located in Santa Elena. On the map, it looks further away from the hub but everything is walking distance. Right beside it is a really nice Soda La Amistad, walk down and then uphill is a grocery store, a taco restaurant, a cafe, and then many other stores. We got lucky, and saw a beautiful toucan at the end of the street. Overall, we loved our stay and would be happy to stay here again.

United States of AmericaWe arrived late at around 8:30 pm. The person at the desk was kind enough to wait for us and helped us check in past the time. The place was small but looked awesome. Since it was raining a lot, I missed sitting in their outdoor spaces, which looked very nice. The breakfast was very cute, got to try so many amazing fruits.

The reception staff were absolutely amazing and Ro went above and beyond for me to help book tours and explain what to do in the area. Thank you for such a wonderful visit!

GermanyThey don’t allow you to dry your wet stuff on the balcony with the reason „that they have laundry service“ which doesn’t make sense at all. If you still try to dry your stuff, an unfriendly woman will either rant at you or we actually saw how she dropped the clothes which is more than just rude. Laundry service means washing clothes but why the hell am I not allowed to dry them after a wet hike in the rain forests and why is this then taken personal?
Very very clean property, great location and amazing breakfast! This place is absolutely amazing. Most of the staff is really friendly too.

United States of AmericaSlow internet and I got a few bug bites in the room. The roads from la fortuna is the worst, which isn’t the fault of the property, but be prepared if you are driving. Also the wind was super loud but was the trade off for the view. There were tip jars everywhere which I found unsettlingly.
The shower had super hot water, but it did run out one day. Beautiful View, friendly staff, good breakfast, clean, and comfortable. Great parking and pillows. Close to the park, town and a great restaurant

United KingdomNothing. It was great.
Great place with a really nice feel to it. Really good view from the communal area over the hills and the town. Staff were all friendly and in particular Ro was so helpful when we first arrived helping us to plan our few days in the town. Breakfast was excellent every day and we were offered something different each day. Rooms and facilities were all clean and only a few minutes walk into the centre of the town. Highly recommend as a great place to stay for visiting the Monteverde area.

United KingdomThere was a strong sewage smell outside (and sometimes inside) our room. It was perhaps related to the heavy rain that had been happening. But it would have been nice to have some acknowledgment of it and perhaps efforts to mitigate it. Also our shower was a bit dirty unfortunately - it was splattered with dirt that had been missed. Staff were super friendly which was great at first but verging on overbearing at times.
It’s a cute little hostel. The breakfast was great and it was nice to have the common areas. I’m sure the view is lovely but we didn’t see it because of the weather. Room is compact and basic but it was a good price. Nice base to explore the area if you have a car.

The location was close to everything, but also quiet and out of the way. The rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast was varied each morning and was delicious. Ro the front desk agent was incredible!!! We had a better arrival experience with him than any luxury properties we visited on our trip.

SpainIt would be good to have some sort of either storage space or just a place to hang the wet clothes (that do get wet in the evening rain). You can often hear the neighbours, especially when they take showers, but it is not the worst.
The place was very nice, but we loved the staff, especially Ro, he was just lovely and we just enjoyed seeing him around. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast was nice. The views from the room were also nice. The location is quiet convenient too (although of course Santa Elena is not super big).

AustraliaGenuinely cannot fault anything about this place. It was affordable, clean, up to date (nothing tired or run down about it), and so, so quiet, which meant we got a killer sleep. Powerpoints were next to the bed and the room was big enough for our luggage and still being able to move around. The staff are amazing, particularly Ro. There was someone else reviewing negatively about being sold 7 tours within the first 5 minutes, but we loved all the information! We were only in Monte Verde for a couple of days (like most people who travel through), and getting all the tour info straight away meant we booked everything for the next day, which we may have missed if we waited for the next morning. Even if we didn’t book, we at least had all the info. There’s no mark ups on the tours, with payment mainly being made at the activity straight to the company, the staff just call and book for you. Given Costa Rica is so poor with having information about anything online (activities and transport), it’s incredibly helpful to have someone just do it for you. Ro also gave us all the travel options and advice to get to Nicaragua when we were leaving. We also struggled with the trick with the third tap in the shower, and Ro was straight up to show us how it worked. The kitchen is incredible well equipped to make any meal you need. It has the most utensils of any hostel we’ve stayed at and ample pans, plates, cutlery etc. It was a very nice change!)

United KingdomRough round the edges, but brilliant for the price. Breakfast starts at 7am so you can't do that and get to the early forest tours.
The breakfast was amazingly delicious and filling - fresh fruit plate and something different cooked each day plus cereal, juice, tea, coffee. You have to book a half hour sitting. Room was spacious and had a great view. No aircon but wasn't needed as cooler temps in Monteverde. There was a fan and a fridge. Diego was really helpful at check in. Location was an easy walk to cafes etc.
