Situated in El Remate, 37 km from Tikal National Park, Hotel Gringo Perdido features accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a fitness centre and a garden. Hotel in El Remate
Set in El Remate, 35 km from Tikal National Park, Posada del Cerro offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. The place is away from the village in a lush greenery and we loved it! Service was super friendly and fast. They even helped us with the transfer to Tikal and back. Our double room was simple but big, with a big terrace with chairs and a hammock to relax and enjoy the greenery / to read etc. Bed was comfortable and had a decent mosquito net. They have a decent menu so we seldom ate breakfast there or had some drinks. The hotel is a walking distance from El Remate so we also walked to visit some restaurants or tienda for some snacks when we wanted to. My favourite thing for sure was the fact it's a little away and in the greenery, little hidden gem. Because it's close to the bioreserve, it was wonderful to hear the sounds of nature and especially have our first experience with howler monkeys howling 🙂 I would recommend it for sure.

An absolute gem.

Hotel in Flores
Las Luciernagas Hotel Boutique has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a private beach area and terrace in Flores. Absolutely beautiful hotel with everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, the grounds were GORGEOUS, rooms were impeccably clean, and their many lake-front decks and lounging areas made it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery. We were in Guatemala during a heat wave and we were SO thankful to be staying at Luciernagas where we could float and relax in the lake or the pool instead of in Flores itself where the heat was quite oppressive. Guests can get to town and back with a free hourly boat. This was our favorite place we stayed during our Central America trip and an excellent place to unwind. The hotel has inner tubes, kayaks, plenty of hammocks, a friendly dog (Fibo!), and plenty of friendly staff to make you feel right at home. Really, really loved this place and highly recommend.

Flores makes a great base to explore El Peten and all the Mayan Ruins surrounding it. We visited only Tikal due to time constraints, but if you stay for longer and are interested then you could definitely fit in some more activities. Flores itself is small, safe, clean and has a good variety of restaurants and bars. It's also very beautiful in parts, although less so in our case as we were plagued by bad weather (in early February).
El Remate is a very low key, somewhat undeveloped stop over perfect for visiting Tikal, Yaxha and other Mayan sites clustered above the northern end of Lago Peten Itza. It has just enough amenities ( wifi, a functional ATM, good restaurants ) to suit the needs of travelers who desire a combination of relative remoteness with some convenience. El Remate is located just off the highway running from Guatemala City to Belize City simplifying passage north or south. Collectivos to either Flores or the border with Belize run frequently, it is also easy to arrange private transportation if that is your wont. There are a variety of places to stay from Backpacker hostels to ecolodges at some remove. Craft stalls, food markets, Tiendas and street food stands line the road that runs along the shore through the village.
A good thing to do in Flores is go by lancha (a little pleasure boat) to some other islands. I went to the Mirador where there's a great view of the lake from up high, and to the zoológico petencito to see animals and birds. It's a good idea to get going early if you want to do an activity outside, when it's cooler, then relax and rest in the afternoon in the shade. My favourite food I ate in Flores was at Legumbres Mayas, a veggie / vegan restaurant. I had the avocado pasta, which was really tasty and good value. The owners were very friendly. In Santa Elena there is a cinema in the Mundo Maya international mall, if you want to test your Spanish by watching a movie, or just enjoy being somewhere that's air conditioned!
A lovely spot, perfect for getting up to the magnificent Mayan city at Tikal or exploring the Peten region in general, but very pretty in itself, with stunning views of the lake and islands, a busy social scene, and a very friendly feel to it. Some good eateries on the island itself, and just down the road (5-10 mins walk) from a supermarket selling everything you could possibly want, and a Sarita's ice cream shop.
Flores is a lil oasis in the middle of Peten. Its perfect for back packers and those who are looking for an adventure away from the normal more traveled roads. Its a quaint lil island that has many attractive restaurants and lakeside views. During the day, you can tour the lil island and buy cute souvenirs or go out on one of the lanchas ( boats) and take a qiuck 15 minute tour around the island. You can also visit, Petencito, an island with a zoo, El Mirador on San Miguel and even tackle the great Tikal. Its perfect for those who want a little adventure.
Flores is beautiful! It is something no one should miss! Don't forget to eat at the amazing comadors around and make a trio into the peten to see the pyramids of the Mirador basin. You wont be sorry!
We had scheduled five nights, but shortened that to four nights while we were there. We enjoyed seeing the island and taking a boat ride on Lake Peten one day. That plus two day trips to the Mayan sites at Tikal and Yaxha were plenty. We found very satisfying restaurants serving white fish from the lake and, of all things,an Italian Restaurant (Terrazzo) which we thought was great - especially their Bruschetta and a caprese salad. All together, we found four nights/three days to be adequate to see everything we were interested in.
Flores is a quiet town on the shore of Peten Itza. It is great to book a hotel like Villa del Lago or Casazul with a view on the lake. The lake is especially beautiful in the morning if it is not foggy. Fresh smoothies and juices are good at San Telmo cafe that tries to be 100% organic. Be prepared to wait half an hour or more if there are more than 5 customers. You can make a day trip to Tikal for 50 quetzal one way or 80 quetzal return. From Tikal you can go to another Mayan ruins called Uaxactun. However, Tikal and Uaxactun are not so cool as Belizean Xunantunich, which is very close to the Guatemalan border.
Una bonita ciudad, pequeña, pintoresca, con muchas opciones touristicas y para comer! Es necesario ir a Tikal, Petencito, el cráter azul y otros lugares famosos para turistas.
Flores
Flores island is really tiny so it’s just 5-6 minutes walk from the shuttle drop off point (I love Petén sign) to the hostel. There’s a small kitchen with 4 gas hobs fridge coffee machine clean plates and utensils spices. Refillable water provided. The family helps to wash the dishes for us which is really nice. There are 2 shared toilets outside and a shower, and they’re clean. Bed was clean and decent but I didn’t have a good sleep because it was toooooo hottttttt in the room
This hotel is truly remarkable. Its architecture not only dazzles the eye but also ingeniously combats Petén's high temperatures. The staff are exceptionally friendly, and the hotel's "no music" policy preserves its serene atmosphere, offering a perfect escape from city life. We especially adore the tranquil lake harbors for swimming and relaxation. The f ood they gave us was also great!
Flores
The location is very nice, the staff was friendly and there is a travel agency inside that makes it very easy to book basically everything you would like to do in Petén area. Food is good, but a bit expensive. The atmosphere was great and we had a private room which was very good and clean. There is a storage room and a Jacuzzi.
This hotel is a very quality mid-range property in the Petén region of Guatemala. The services like housekeeping here are very good, and the amenities like the pool and bar were greatly appreciated. Particularly due to the sky-high temperature the AC felt amazing! Overall, I'm glad we booked our stay here.
kudos to the staff! They were nice to accommodate the pick-up at Flores late at night, the staff is amazing and friendly, the included breakfast was delicious, and we got the Luxury Village that includes a jacuzzi. it is a great location to enjoy Peten Itza lake
Property location is good and it is 2 blocks walk to the lake Peten. Also near to fruits, vegetable shops and a pharmacy. the staff were really helpful. One of my family member was I’ll and hotel staff helped to get medicine for us from the near by pharmacy.
Amazing customer service....would recommend hotel casa turquesa to anyone. Clean room, friendly staff. Excellent view of the lagoon. Easy access to stores, in the heart of the beautiful island of Flores, Peten Guatemala. Thank you Hotel Casa Turquesa.
The views from our super clean room made this hotel one of the most enjoyable stays we had in the Petén of Guatemala. The views overlooking Lake Petén Itza toward the little village of San Miguel made it a quiet and serene experience.
Delicious chapin breakfast, kindness of the staff Tikal, Petén is the perfect place to disconnect, it is always wonderful to visit GUATEMALA 😍 magical to explore more if it is with the family ❤️ I hope to return soon! 🙌🇬🇹🤠
Beautiful place, the room was.nice, the staff were great especially the restaurant staff - thank you for.all your help. We loved the pool and the nature around. This was a great place to begin our journey to Peten.
El Remate
Amazing place immerse in nature with the sound of Petén animals to experience Amazing facilities and complementary offerings like kayaks, padels, bocce field Great staff always caring and available
We loved the hotel's location. It's absolutely stunning, overlooking lake Peten. The hotel is very pretty, cute and offers privacy. The staff was very friendly, helpful and kind.
Nice, spacious rooms The hotel’s entrance is really welcoming Perfect location - at the entrance of the town, particularly if you’re taking a bus from I love Petén sign Welcoming staff
Mon Ami is one of only a very few hotels with a swimming pier. The water of Lago Peten Itza is warm and crystal clear . El Remate is paradise.
All great, highlight: they also gave us access to the swimming pool of the hotel Petén !
I am unsure if it was because we had just spent two nights in the painful, sweltering heat of the jungle (45 degrees Celsius) with no air conditioning and anything with an air conditioner would have made us happy, but we loved this place the instant we arrived! We were welcomed by a delicious jamaica juice welcome drink and a very friendly lady at reception. We were surprised to learn that there was a complementary 1-hour boat ride on the lake every day at 16:45 and that the temazcal (sauna) was also included in the price of the accommodation. The property grounds included a wonderfully kept garden and open grass area by the lakeside as well as a forested area where we say monkeys, squirrels, hummingbirds, iguanas, etc. The gardener Martin was very friendly and saw that we were interested in seeing wildlife, so he pointed out the monkeys (called "bonitos") and told us the local names of the birds and even treated us to some fish seeding. It seems that the stale bread from the restaurant is used to feed the fish at the lake every morning. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of hungry fish gobbling up the bread that we threw into the lake, The room itself was heaven - a beautiful view from the balcony, air conditioning, and a lot of space. We were told at reception that internet was not available in the rooms, but we were surprised to find a network with a very strong, stable, and fast internet connection. This worked out perfectly for me as I was able to work comfortably inside the air conditioned room. There was a table provided in the room, which I turned into my desk. All but one person working at the hotel (a male at reception) were very friendly, from reception staff to restaurant staff, to the gardener. The food at the restaurant is pricey, but good. Note that there really isn't a choice nearby, so you are stuck with the hotel restaurant unless you have your own transport or would like to shell out money for tuk tuks.
Great location! Wonderful pool that is lakeside! Staff was accommodating and friendly.
Restaurant at the bottom. Location to every thing.
Great hotel to stay at in Flores. Clean rooms with AC and the pool was wonderful.
How close it was to the entrance & being with nature (amongst the wild life). Also the additional facilities were nice, great restaurant.
