Boasting natural hot spring baths, Hohoemino Kuyufu Tsuruya is located a 15-minute walk from JR Tendo Station, 50 km from Sendai. Beautiful property. The room was spacious! Even for Western standards. The private onsen was very nice. We did not try the public onsen. The staff were courteous and helpful. Although the staff had limited English proficiency, they all used a translation app to help with communication which was incredibly helpful.

Located just 24 km from Kamo Aquarium, Tamonkan features accommodation in Tsuruoka with access to a garden, a terrace, as well as private check-in and check-out. Amazing food and beautiful traditional ryokan. Dinner was one of the best meals I have eaten anywhere in my life. The owner's wife and mother prepared and beautifully presented a perfect Japanese dinner, and breakfast (Japanese) was also incredible. Our room was the oldest (100 years) but the whole place dripped with authenticity and good taste. We stayed in early January and it was very cold in the hallways but rooms had gas heaters to keep you cozy. The walk from the front door to the top of Mount Haguro was about an hour and a half with deep compacted snow covering the famous 2446 steps. A truly memorable experience.

Situated within 18 km of Zao Onsen Ski Resort in Yamagata, Guesthouse Mintaro Hut offers accommodation with seating area. This 1-star guest house offers a shared kitchen and luggage storage space. Everything is beautiful from the moment we arrived till we left. The culture at this guesthouse is what im looking for at every guesthouse.

Near to Ropeway 3, convenience store, sake museum, and onsen. Plus points for the delicious barbecue restaurant in front of the hotel. The hosts Oraphin and Taka were very warm and spoke great English too. They had a lot of stories to share and it was such a pleasure to stay in their company. Coffee and tea were provided in the common area. Clean and well-kept place!

The hosts Oraphin, Taka and Yui are such a lovely family, making Matsuo House is such a homely place. Oraphin and Taka are generous with giving local advice on restaurants, walks and Onsen. There’s a lovely common eating/relaxing room, which can make the stay very social if you want it to be. Zao Onsen is a cute little town flowing with hot spring water. The Onsen themselves are petite and local-feeling, which I really enjoyed. There’s a variety of temperatures and settings to explore. If I am in the country again, I will make a beeline for Yamagata so I can stay here once more.

Zao onsen is a beautiful town, a great place to go skiing but our stay was memorable thanks to the big kindness of Oraphin and Taka. They are such beautiful people, willing to help you and to make sure you have everything you need. We bring back home wonderful memories and we wish to come back. Thanks again!

Located just 4 km from Kamo Aquarium, Ikkyu -Seaside Hotel- offers accommodation in Tsuruoka with access to an open-air bath, a shared lounge, as well as a lift. the hotel is great, super clean, decor is simple elegant and comfortable. large sitting room facing occean, and the most beautiful sunset. fantistic meals, dinner and breakfast.
