One of the best views I've seen during my trip to Guatemala. The place was clean and well-kept. Remy and Darina were incredible hosts. They were friendly and very helpful with anything we needed. We even had supper at their house on our last night. We decided to get breakfast, lunch and dinner from them since everything else was out of the way. The vegetarian meals that they prepared tasted incredible (this is coming from a carnivore) and were very filling after a long day of activities. When going to Semuc Champey, make sure you take their takeaway lunch since the food options are limited and not the most gut-friendly at the park. The cabin is located on top of the mountain. This means that you will need to walk a solid 5 to 10 minutes to get there. The property is located in a Mayan village. It was a unique cultural experience hiking through the village and seeing the friendly Mayan people in their colourful clothes living their daily lives. I highly recommend hiking the 1 hour to the main road, then taking the public transit to Semuc Champey. It'll allow you to truly experience the local way and the beautiful nature. The place is around 30 minutes from where the bus drops you off. The roads are rough and only accessible by 4x4's. They can arrange transport to their property if needed.

I loved sleeping with the sound of the river. The place is very cosy considering the simplicity of the homestay. You can see that it's a starting business that promises a lot if they keep the hard work. The 5-br with mountain views, had become one of my favourite resting spots.

Nawal is situated in Lanquín, 3 km from Semuc Champey, and has a restaurant, a garden and a bar. A tour desk can provide information on the area. Loved the location a nice walk to Semuc Champey (but the walk back is uphill, so I wish I took a pickup back). The owner Manuel is great, really helpful and knowledgeable. He pointed out all the types of plants, (coffee, cacao, and spices) as he drove us from the shuttle dropoff spot to the hostel in his pickup. Ask him about the cave at the hostel. The other staff are also great. Whenever anyone ordered food or a shuttle, the guys working knew everyone's names without asking and never mixed up the tabs. The mattress in the 8 bed dorm was nice, didn't feel any springs. The showers are cold, so take it when you're extra sweaty. The buildings are basic and have metal roofs, which was the first time I stayed in a place with that. It gets hot in the middle of the day, so go out and enjoy the nature instead! The power went out my last day during the day, but by dinnertime they got a generator working. Food is good portions and less pricey than I expected after being in El Paredon a few days prior.
