Looking for a property with onsen?
Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.

Very clean and comfortable. Exactly what you'd expect for a decent 2-star place. There's a coin laundry and decent restaurants close by.

This hotel turned out to be better than I expected. It was easy to locate, with enough parking for all. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and quiet. We had a good river view and enjoyed the onsen area. The dining area has a beautiful view of the river and area near the hotel. The dinner was good. I especially enjoyed the tempura garlic flower and the yuba tempura. The clear soup was cute and the matcha chocolate "cake" was light and delicious!

The Shimanto Riverside Hideaway was an oasis of tranquility during our hectic trip through Japan. Right in the middle of nature. We stayed in the private ‘cabin’ next to the ryokan which has all the amenities you need (including a fully equipped kitchen and delicious coffee!). Additionally, Kenji is a fantastic host who makes you feel right at home. Kenji’s Hideaway is the reason why you should visit Shimanto - aside from the fact that the region itself is also stunning.

Nicely kept hotel for a fairly remote place - very clean and spacious room and ensuite. Conveniently located in centre of town. Parking in front of hotel was free.
