The Dormy Inn, a quintessential Japanese hotel chain, has a winning formula: allow guests to roam around the building in the provided pajamas and add an excellent Onsen (= hot springs), a rich breakfast, free soup in the evening, and a variety of other extras. The other good thing is that once you stayed in one Dormy Inn, it is easy to find your way around the next one. The hotel is also quite well situated, just about 10 minutes walking distance from the station. The drawback during our visit was its very popularity: Being completely booked led to lines almost everywhere, at the soup, in front of the elevators, and generally too much pressure on the central resources, which did not scale quite proportionally with the number of people. This leads to a feeling of "mass production" with disposable plastic plates and spoons, locks on drink dispensers at certain times, and so forth, which other Dormy Inns we stayed in (e.g., the Dormy Inn Express near Mount Fuji) did not have.

The room was clean and the layout was very nice. There is actually a work space/desk, which is lacking at many hotels nowadays, although the TV is basically on the desk. Everything provided in the refrigerator upon arrival was considered to be a welcome drink which meant there was no charge to consume anything. The somewhat separate bath, shower, and toilet spaces was nice, though this us common in Japan and in many hotels the toilet is by itself in a totally separate space. The level of service in this particular side of the property (there is a "premier" side and a "grand" side; this was the premier side) was excellent. The property also has a 24 hour onsen with a 24 hour restaurant. Very convenient to use upon arrival or before departure, though it can get crowded and the water could be hotter.

It's quite an experience to be in a ryokan for a foreigner, and I mean this in a semi-good way. Literally (for me, I hope) one-of-a-time experience.
The onsens are very nice.

Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as "onsen," these hotels offer a relaxing soak in therapeutic, geothermal waters. Traditionally onsens were located outdoors, but a number of hotels now offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with "kuroyu" black water famous for its positive effects on skin.
Dormy Inn Kawasaki located close to train station ~ 25 mins from Shinjuku, many shopping outlets, supermarkets, restaurants. The room is new and very clean, comfortable bed. As the rest of Dormy inn, the Onsen facility, rest lounge, food are decent for the price . Will stay again when visit Tokyo.
Hardware is very good in this hotel, the set out of the room, the hot spring, and the top floor common area is nice. Free noodles and once cream also nice.
The location is perfect for me—it's close to the train station for work and the riverside for running. After my run, I can relax in the hot spring and use the complimentary washing machine to clean my clothes. It's convenient, and I'm enjoying my stay here for several days.
