Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as "onsen," these hotels offer a relaxing soak in therapeutic, geothermal waters. Traditionally onsens were located outdoors, but a number of hotels now offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with "kuroyu" black water famous for its positive effects on skin.

Milion dollar view from the hotel lobby and room at the Pacific Ocean/Japanese sea. Private onsen (hot spring water) in the wooden tube on balcony. Public onsen for man/woman. Japanese style accommodation. Staff and service. Location in the northern island - Hokkaido (great in summer heats of Japan) with an easy access to beautiful city of Hakodate. Only 4 hours (860 km) by bullet train Hayabusa (Shinkansen) from the Tokyo Station.
It is an old style Japanese ryokan. Quite far from downtown. Must have car. Nearer to highway entrance. Free flow of champagne, coffee and ice-cream is good. Nice lobby. Nice outdoor onsen.
Location - just a few steps from the JR train station. Super convenient.
Room - size was large for Japanese standard. Well laid out and bed was comfortable.
Breakfast - large and varied spread featuring fresh, great quality Hokkaido produce. They offered a limited quantity of non-homogenised fresh milk which was super creamy and yummy, not to be missed.
Service - excellent from reception to breakfast and room service.
Onsen - large natural hot spring water with a great atmosphere of a traditional onsen.
The location is good, very close to the station (you can see the hotel once you walk out of the station). The rooftop hot spring onsen is divine, especially after the day of the travelling, relaxing in the onsen with the night view of the harbour is amazing! The morning market is right next to the hotel, with loads of choices for breakfast.
Location is near to the seaside port, and we have a port-view from the bathtub! It's also within walking distance to the JR train station. There's a morning wet market just right downstairs of the hotel. The rooftop public onsen (hot spring bath) and its facilities were great for a night soak. We love Tokyu Stay esp with the spacious room, washer dryer machine, mini fridge, and microwave provided. Beds were also clean and comfy. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful; Check-in/out was a breeze too.
Amazing hot spring baths, including multiple outdoor baths - much better than expected. Great localization near the train station and the morning market. Kind and helpful staff, very clean room and bathroom. Overall probably unbeatable for the price.
The breakfast was delicious and the hotel staff managed the flow of guests well. There is a welcoming lounge on the ground floor where guest can enjoy tea, coffee, soft drinks, yuzu cha, hot soup as well as white or red wine. The onsen was enjoyable and there is a small outdoor bath. The room was well designed and had a shower room. The hotel provides towels for the hot springs and also a comfortable pajama ensemble.
