Volubilis is just okay.
Volubilis is just okay. After multiple earthquakes, abandonment, local tribes using the ruins for construction purposes, this ancient city is mostly about 1 foot high. They have made some efforts to put some of the structures back together again, but mostly you really have to use your imagination to see it aa anything other than building blocks on the ground. This being said there are some interesting mosaics that have survived … amazingly.

There are a few steps up and down to reach it, so do consider the donkey option...

We drank the water as suggested and had no issues which was a nice feature. I hate buying so much water. It was easy access to Volubilis and the town square. They can arrange all sorts of things for you from the Riad if you just ask. We arranged a driver to Fes but they offer donkey rides and other things. They even had an electric mattress cover to heat the bed!HeatherCanada

Unique in many ways starting with the donkey to carry our luggage up the stairs. The staff were most accommodating and very pleasant. Everything was clean and neat. A short walk to the main square and withing walking distance of Volubilis. The food was good too.

The bed was comfortable, the hot water and water pressure very good, the breakfast very good and the host very friendly. Parking on the street two minutes from the place costs 5 dirham. It is walking distance to Volubilis but I’d drive the back road through the olive orchards.

Excellent breakfast and dinner choices made fresh. Excellent room. Nicely decorated. Very clean facility. Room size was adequate. Large comfortable bathroom and shower. The staff helped me with a train reservation and arranged for a taxi. A map of the area is provided for both an area hike and directions to the Roman Ruins Volubilis. I highly recommend. Very relaxing. Wish I had been able to spend another night.

The staff is very attentive - even cooked dinner for us late after we informed them upon arrival we were going to eat in the town then decided not to. There are a lot of stairs here - both getting to the Dar and inside as well. The rooftop terrace provides a great panorama of both Moulay Idriss and Volubilis.
