The Harnser is an old pub right in the centre of historic Cley. We could see the iconic windmill from our window. The room was really atmospheric with a well presented en suite shower room. The meals were really high quality, with local seafood at...

I was traveling on a fairly tight budget in need of B&B and The Harnser matched my expectations - in a good way. The room (# 5) was spotlessly clean & comfortable, although small & spartan (as expected) - think Vincent van Gogh's bedroom with the...

We stayed for 2 nights at the Harnser and loved every moment! Ronan is a most welcoming host, full of humor, extremely accommodating, and a great G&T mixer. We enjoyed breakfast, a lunch, and dinner in the cozy dining room throughout our stay,...

Company info

The Harnser (old norfolk for Heron) is a 17th century traditional flint building in the heart of Cley Next the Sea. It started life as a pub and was formerly the Kings Head of Cley until 1971, when the name was changed to The Harnser and was converted into tea rooms and bed and breakfast. In 2021 the refurbished Cafe /Bistro opened to the general public with 5 bedrooms, all with their own private facilities, together with car-parking for 6/8 vehicles- a rare in the village.

Property info

A beautiful rambling old flint and brick building nestled in picturesque Cley high street, close to the marshes and beach. The building has character; wonky doorways, old wooden floors, oak beams and crooked corners. It is perfect in its imperfections. All rooms have private shower rooms, however rooms 2 & 4 have theirs across the corridor from them. Rooms 1,3 and 5 have ensuites. There is free WiFi, flatscreen TVs, Hairdryers, Tea and Coffee facilities in each bedroom. We are dog friendly in all areas including the bedrooms. We have no fitted carpets in the rooms, lovely painted floorboards with rugs on. Cosy, comfortable and unpretentious! We are open as a Cafe, Bar and Bistro after a refit in 202, serving breakfast to our guests before opening to the public at 11am until 4 pm, serving light bites, toasted sandwiches, soup, cakes and coffees from 12pm to 3 pm. We reopen at 7pm for evening meals and drinks, serving a variety of home cooked dishes until 9pm, closing at 10:30pm. Please note The Harnser is closed every Tuesday though we do serve our guests who are staying their breakfast that morning. Sanders Coast Hopper, the local bus service that goes from Wells to Cromer via Blakeney and Cley

Neighborhood info

Beautiful views of the marshes and sea, with a back-drop of undulating countryside, Cley is within a mile of the beach. Within walking distance, the village has two pubs: the George and Dragon and Three Swallows as well as the Picnic Fayre deli, Cley Smokehouse, Made in Cley ( pottery ) and the Pinkfoot Gallery, Cley is perfectly placed to suit year round activities.
