Situated in Akune, 24 km from Sendai-kō, Shioya Hostel features accommodation with free bikes, free private parking and a shared lounge. The owners are very nice people and they live just across the road. They also have a nice cafe there. When I arrived, during check in, their children were there doing their homework in the cafe. Thus, it made me feel at home, and being glad that what I paid would be going to directly support a family, and not shareholders of a large hotel chain. The hostel is very clean, and I could have the privacy I needed with their setup of private rooms, yet benefiting from the hostel atmosphere experience. Very comfortable single bed, better than some hotels I stayed here in Japan. Laundry was free and they provided detergent. They recommended a very good izakaya in the vicinity. Finally, their garage provided a safe place to store my bicycle.

Hi! We loved everything about our stay at the guesthouse in Yamatohama! Great guesthouse in a lovely village. Amazing nature, waterfalls, and beaches at Amami. Snorkeling, kayaking, and SUPing can be done in the bay area of Yamatohama (at the guesthouse). Really nice accommodation. Great breakfast—we loved the traditional Japanese chicken rice soup! We also highly recommend the BBQ at the guesthouse. This was by far our favorite guesthouse and location in Japan! The owner and staff are amazing. We miss you all!

A wonderful little hostel! Incredible hosts. They’re not around all day but when they are, they’ve very welcoming and kind. Despite not speaking the same language, they made exceptional effort using google translate to support me. The scooter hire was considerably affordable and a great way to get around the island. Highly recommended!

Sakai Guest House AMAMI（堺ゲストハウス奄美） is located in Setouchi, within 42 km of Yanigawa Shopping Street and 50 km of Amami Marine Exhibition Hall. Staff was so nice! Got everything we needed and really enjoyed our stay in Setouchi :)

Hostel Tomal is located in Kagoshima, less than 1 km from Kagoshima City Museum of Art and a 7-minute walk from Sengoku Tenjin. It's such a great, homey hostel. Shoko, the receptionist, was amazing, hung out with us, and helped us with recommendations. Would absolutely come again!
