It was the off season and it was very peaceful and quiet. Plus they are Pup friendly. We love that part. Their morning breakfast over looking the lake so beautiful we be going back. You want a place to kick back and unwind this it especially the off season and during weekday love love this place.

The location, room, balcony, restaurant, and trails were incredible. After staying a quick night there and a few hours on the trails, we wished we had spent more time! Next time we will stay longer!

Featuring pool with a view, shared lounge and views of lake, Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is located in Hawkins, 48 km from Lake Barkley State Park. We stayed 2 different nights, one on the way up to Wisconsin and once on the way home. While the first stay was better than the second, there were several things that could have gone better. The cabins have steep steps you have to navigate to get to you cabin, some are worse than others. When I made the reservations, I told them we had a special needs adult, you would think they would make sure she wouldn't have the steepest climbs, nope. Also, the walls of the cabins are wood and the cabins are cute, but they really needed a good dusting. There several items that didn't work either. Plug in the bathroom at one and the phone in the second. The can opener also did not work. Good thing we brought one! Most everyone was pleasant but I think the entire restaurant staff were mad during the second night. Overall, pleasant enough. Sadly, we likely won't be back.
