What a perfect cottage for our holiday to Iceland. Great location, ideal for day trips to the Golden Circle and the south coast. The cottage itself was so cosy, warm and welcoming - equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Loved the hot tub as well!

The hotel is located in the geothermal area of Iceland and close to quite a few attractions. The river along the hotel is beautiful and the jacuzzi on the river was great. The dinner at the restaurant was delicious.
It’s a perfect base for exploring the golden circle and the south coast. There is only 7 km to Hveragerdi and Selfoss, cities with a wide range of shops and restaurants.

The property is about 15-20 minutes north of Selfoss where you can get most things you would need for a self catering holiday. The location also means that most of the Golden Circle spots are not far away and we even drove down to Diamond Beach and back in a day, which was a journey never to be forgotten for its superb scenery and iceberg boat trip.
The house is easy to find even if down a track off the main road (Google maps will take to the the track that is now blocked, so you need the other one about 30m further north). There is ample parking for up to 3 cars. When we went into the house it looked far better than the photos, especially the deck out over the river which was superb (on a nice day!). The views from the kitchen window and the lounge were also wonderful. One reason I chose this house is that it seemed to be far more nicely furnished than many others I had looked at in the area and we were not let down by the reality.
Even though the description said 5 bathrooms, there were only in fact 2 shower rooms (one en suite and the other a family bathroom - the other 3 were hand basins off each twin room), however this was never a problem and there were 6 adults in our family. The kitchen is well equipped and the huge lounge is great for relaxing after a long day's hiking, horse riding or whatever. The TV had Netflix. There are blinds on each window that are effective (you need them if it never gets dark).
The sauna was a hit as was the hot tub outside, again with superb views.
Communication from the owners (Vala) was quick and she was always very helpful.
Our children (very fussy and frank in their views) thought this was the best place we have stayed in so far, which is saying something as I always try and find nice houses wherever we go as a family.
Overall I would recommend this property highly to families coming to sample the true wonders of Iceland's scenery - the house is spacious and very cosy on colder days.
Located in Stokkseyri, 37 km from Ljosifoss, Vonarland features a garden and views of the lake. This property offers access to a patio and free private parking.

The possibility of viewing the northern lights directly outside the cottage. Thanks again to the owner who brought us a hair dryer to dry off our wet & discharged phones (after being in Sky Lagoon) without which we wouldn’t be able to capture the Aurora Boréales.
As families grow in size, so too do the needs of a family holiday. That’s why family hotels are set up to cater for all ages, from toddlers and kids to teens and adults. Typically, you can expect restaurants with kids’ menus, games rooms, fitness centres and a pool area where children can play and parents can relax.
We were not able to reach the apartment as the road nb 1 was broken due to glacier flooding. road was cut for 3 days, something to keep in mind when traveling even if extremely unusual (1100km round trip to reach airport)
BUT we give a 10 rating as the owners kindly refund us for the night which covers the costs of another place on the road
Its a very cosy house in the backyard, as the name says! There were some nice toys for the kids and they especially liked the animals of the house ☺️ it was all we needed!
I loved everything about this hotel. The quirky design, the fantastic eating options, the family room… it felt uber cool but at the same time very family friendly.
Comfortable hotel right next to the ring road and with easy access to the geothermal highlights of the area. The swimming pool is large and with the hot pots makes for a perfect place to warm up. Breakfast has lots of choice. Beds are very comfortable and the staff friendly and very helpful. There is a nice playroom in the basement to keep kids occupied.
Many options for dinner, ice cream and lovely shop. Great continental buffet breakfast. The family room was great with an extra bedroom for our two teenage children.
The family room was very spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and well served. My kids loved the warm swim pool. I would definitely stay again at this hotel.
The family room was amazing - kids loved the bunk beds. we loved the food trucks, ice cream parlour and shops, as well as the perfectly furnished room. a great stay.
