Situated in a tranquil area in Gifu Region, a 52-minute drive away from JR Takayama Station, Mozumo boasts a hot-spring bath and rooms decorated with modern Japanese interior. From all the places we stayed in Japan, this was our favorite. Everything was perfect - the combination of a peaceful atmosphere with a very comfortable place. We got the option with dinner and breakfast, which we can only recommend - everything was very well prepared and delicious. The highlight of course is the private onsen, which can provide a well needed resting for travelers like us, who walk a lot during vacation. The staff was very kind and helpful.

Boasting a private open-air bath, Oyado Eitaro is situated in Takayama. Featuring free private parking, the 2-star ryokan is 35 km from Takayama Station. Everything was good. Service food people location were all good.

Set in Takayama in the Gifu region, Ryokan Tanaka offers accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. For a reasonable and additional charge, the dinner and the breakfast were amazing. One of us was a first time traveller to Japan and the other had previously lived in Japan; both of us thought the meals were interesting, beautiful and presented with care. The room had a great view of the surroundings and nature (covered in snow when we were there) and the amenities were well-functioning and comfortable. The layout of the room (with toilet and sink separated from main room by sliding door) was also pleasing. There are 4 onsens: 2 on the men side and 2 on the women side. There is a 4th private outdoor onsen. We would definitely stay here again.

Tabist Kazeyuki in Takayama provides adults-only accommodation with free bikes, a garden and a shared lounge. The outdoor onsens were really so beautiful, pleasant and comforting; also a great system: no need for reservation, simply show up - with two indoor and two outdoor onsens and less than 16 rooms, plus request not to use onsen longer than 30 minutes, you've got a fair chance to get the onsen at the time of your liking. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is pleasant, including small japanese patio garden. Decor of tatami rooms very nice - though with a few water stains; its size was amazing; bathroom OK. There's no on-site breakfast or dinner; however, they do have vending machines, offer UFO cup noodles and microwave to help you out in need. Right across the street is a shop with a small supermarket section, sufficient to help you out with your breakfast and lunch needs plus drinks, so no huge need to bring much food from out of town. Also nice restaurants in near vicinity - just take care they do close VERY early in the evening. Short walk from and to bus station - also here, take note you'd mostly need reservations for your Tobu buses getting into and out of Okuhida onsen.
