Located in Kyoto, within 600 metres of Shoren-in Temple and 1 km of Samurai Kembu Kyoto, Fufu Kyoto provides accommodation with a restaurant and free WiFi as well as free private parking for guests... I was really sick one night during my stay. The hotel staff helped me called ambulance and translated my situation to medical team arrived. Luckily, my situation got stable soon and I was not need to be transferred to a hospital. The hotel staff helped me changed bed linen and did a quick room cleanup for me. Next morning, they cooked rice congee for me and brought breakfast to my room. Their service was excellent and thanks to their quick response to my emergency moment. They are all professional and friendly.

Service, room, Japanese breakfast and dinner were excellent. My wife mentioned that it was my birthday and I was left a very sweet message in my room. We purposely chose this location to be away from the more busy areas of Kyoto. Logistically, it worked perfect. There is a grocery store across the street. Taxis were easy and convenient and we were also able to walk to the Philosopher’s Path and other areas easily.

Situated within less than 1 km of Heian Shrine and a 14-minute walk of Eikan-do Zenrin-ji Temple, Guest House Nishimura - Vacation STAY 13438 features rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom... Tadashi-san and Yuki-san were without question the best hosts we've had in a while. Their care and help were outstanding and the house itself was extremely clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We felt at home for our nine nights, I will definitely be back if I have the chance!

Yuki san and Tadashi san are very accommodating, and super nice. Tadashi san even went to a nearby event at the same time as us and was sweet enough to translate for us when we didn't understand directions. The facilities are very nice and very good value for money. The hosts also have very thorough and in my opinion very good advice for local hikes/attractions and restaurants! And the view of the temple from the western style room is phenomenal.

THE HOTEL HIGASHIYAMA by Kyoto Tokyu Hotel has a fitness centre, garden, a terrace and restaurant in Kyoto. The 4-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with a private bathroom and free WiFi. One of the best hotels we stayed at. The staff is super-friendly, efficient, and friendly - a consistent experience from check-in to checkout. There is a hotel bus from Kyoto Station (every 20th min of every hour) to the hotel (and every 55th min every hour in opposite direction), which is a really great relief when you travel with a lot of bags. The hotel is located in a calm and peacfull neighbourhood only a few min away from Modern Art, Arts and Crafts and Design Museum. There are also a few nice restaurants, coffee places and antique stores... Metro stop is some 5 min walking distance. The breakfast is excellent and definitely worth taking. We initially did not take the breakfast option as we prefer exploring local cuisine, but we ended up eating in the hotel 4 out of 8 days we stayed there - great Japaneese options at the buffet. If we ever get back to Kyoto, this will be our place to return to.

Situated in Kyoto, 800 metres from Heian Shrine, Hotel Material features rooms with free WiFi access. This was our favorite place we stayed on our trip. Material is a great little boutique hotel with lots of charm. By Japan Standards our room was actually fairly large and had a great industrial mixed with Japanese traditional feel to it. Despite facing a major road, road noise was minimal, the location was a short walk from the nearest subway station and was comparatively short walks from many of the top tourist locations in the city. We walk a lot on trips in general (approximately 10 miles a day on average) so of course this is all relative. Our room was a 3rd floor walk up so it probably wouldn't be ideal for those with mobility issues. We ate at Detail ramen, the restaurant that shares the ground floor with the hotel, twice on during our stay and were quite happy with the meals we had! Be sure to look at their hours if you want to make that a part of your stay and keep in mind that the restaurant is cash only and their ticket ordering machine only accepts the older bills (at least at the time of writing this). Overall the hotel staff were very friendly and patient with us when we needed to use google translate for the few things language barrier got in the way of. The premises was quiet and just generally really lovely. It was the only hotel we stayed in during our trip to Japan that we actually felt excited about spending time in. Because we found the room so pleasant we ended up changing around our itinerary a bit to get up early and go out to see and photograph sites before sunrise, come back to the hotel for a mid day rest and nap before going out in the afternoon to evening for more site seeing or shopping. We also spent a couple evenings enjoying some drinks we purchased at the Lawsons about a block away on the rooftop while watching the sun set, talking and reconnecting. For the right kind of traveler this place is an absolute gem in balance between affordability, comfort, and location.

A 10-minute walk from Heian Jingu Shrine, Heian No Mori Kyoto features a public bath and Japanese and buffet restaurants. The air-conditioned rooms include a private bathroom. Very convenient location, bus stop right outside with lots of buses that go all over the city. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Black out curtains so got a good night sleep. Comfortable room and very clean. Picked the random room option and got a twin.
