Durban is widely regarded as unsafe and it struggles with problems. The suburb of Umhlanga is safe, modern and supports many quality shopping malls, restaurants and bars. There is a persistent problem with running water supplies - or there certainly was in our apartment. The management at our apartment claims the problem affects the entire municipality and there is nothing they can do. Friends staying nearby, however, did not experience our problems.

Durban around Glenwood has an atmosphere of decline and decay. Walking to DUT from Glenwood did not feel safe, although I made the journey on foot several times including after dark without incident. A whole row of garages on Bulwer road have been taken over by informal squatters, the roads are in a poor state. My car hit a big pothole while turning off a main road on the way to arriving. Durban gives the impression of a city without a government. One evening an African man asked me (white) if I was not afraid to be walking at night. I replied by asking him if he was not afraid. He replied that it was OK in early evening, but not later.

The Durban City sections that I went to were quite not crowded and I have felt safe wandering around day or night.
The area overall is neat and clean.
As I was on strict diet, I have brought along most of the foods and stuff that I needed.
But went to a local Sasol Filling Station just behind the hotel, Spar Supermarket, Shoprite and Pick & Pay.
Those shops are within a walking dinstance of less than 20 minutes.
Shop stuff were friendly and very helpful.
A lot of attention (and no little expense) has been afforded to the decor throughout. A good looking hotel with a lot to explore. Comfortable sitting area with honesty bar. Decent breakfast by the pool with good choice. Short drive to the beach and Umhlanga Rocks. Will probably be our go to when we are next in Durban.
The hotel is based on the southern end of the Durban beach front, this means it is not as popular as some of the other hotels. It certainly is value for money and you get exactly what you paid for. Breakfast was great and the staff very efficient and friendly.
Fun hotel, the room was really nice, great bathroom. The pool was great, a big playground for the kids with a zipline and a resident tortoise! The breakfast was great.
The location was good, walking distance from the main area and near the beach.
The hotel is located near the beach, shops are nearby. The staff is friendly, to place is sparkling neat, we loved and enjoyed our stay. We definitely coming back ❤️❤️❤️🙂
