Our stay at Mont d'Or Hotel in Clarens was a delightful experience. The staff, specifically the manager on duty, was extremely attentive and ensured that our stay was comfortable. While quaint and in a small holiday town, the Mont d'Or Hotel and its staff provided a world-class experience. The buffet breakfast was surprisingly good, with a wide variety of traditional fare that seemed to be closely monitored for top-ups to ensure everything was fresh (even if you nipped in closer to the end of breakfast, which we did on the second day).
At every instance, the staff was extremely friendly and the service was faultless.
The room was clean, well appointed and looked as it was in the photos.

I travelled to Clarens on my way to the Rugby in Johannesburg , but never made it to the rugby because all the roads where closed due to snow. Some people had to stay overnight stuck in their cars. Due to these road closures all accomodation in Clarens was full. for the Saturday night. The staff at Highland quarters assisted me to find alternative accomodation in a nearby town and made sure I was safe. I just like to thank the staff there for going beyond what was required of them.

Lovely and cosy studio with a very convenient location. It was clean and perfect for our two-night stay in Clarens. Within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
Lovely vibe with lots of quaint shops. Too much of the same things, however. Great restaurants can certainly recommend Clementines for great food and ambience. Close to the beautiful Golden Gate Reserve.

It’s such a beautiful place!
It’s such a beautiful place! Hiking at Golden Gate is a must! A lazy day browsing the shops with all the gorgeous handmade goodies a treat. Visiting the bakery Moocca Gelato with their decadent cheesecake and other baked goodies, to fine dining at Treat Restaurant or popping in at Cinnamon & Sugar on your way to Golden Gate for scrumptious home made bread sandwiches! Visiting Four Paws Sanctuary and learning about true conservation and seeing beautiful leopard, tigers and lions, as well as other wildlife! Hiking up to Kloof Dam and having a picnic while birdwatching. Such a breathtaking place to visit.

Really beautiful little town with lots to do.
Really beautiful little town with lots to do. So much to see. We loved that every shop and restaurant was unique in it's own way. We could pretty much walk everywhere we wanted to go. We felt safe, which is a great feeling in South Africa. We will definitely return. We loved every second.

Like all small towns these days, infra structure is failing.
Like all small towns these days, infra structure is failing. The dirt roads in the town are in terrible condition. The numerous shops, stalls and restaurants however, radiate a very festive atmosphere and makes shopping at the various little shops a truly pleasant experience.

As someone who’s particularly sensitive to the ambiance of a place, my recent visit to Clarens left me feeling surprisingly underwhelmed. Almost immediately upon arriving, I picked up on a noticeably low, somewhat heavy energy throughout the town. It seemed as though the community's collective spirit was not at its peak that day—or even that month. Whether it’s influenced by a particular figure or group or simply the result of economic uncertainty, something just seemed to be weighing down the overall mood.
Clarens is known for its beautiful setting and charming appeal, but the quiet, almost subdued vibe didn’t quite match the picturesque scenery. Instead of an invigorating getaway, it felt a bit stagnant and in need of some introspection. The town might benefit from taking a close look at how its current market, local leadership, and overall direction are shaping both perception and experience. After all, travellers and visitors alike can quickly pick up on subtle shifts in atmosphere.
I genuinely hope Clarens can recognise this lull and find ways to uplift its spirit. With conscious effort, thoughtful planning, and a renewed focus on community well-being, there’s no reason this small town can’t recapture the vibrancy and welcoming energy it’s so often praised for.

GPS coordinates only take you to the Clarens golf estate gate when you should actually drive another 14 km on the R 712 if not mistaken to see the farm board on your right hand side coming from Clarens towards Golden gate. Within 2 hours off reaching this destination I KNEW that I KNEW I am on HOLIDAY. I did not want to leave the lodge, all was great for body, mind and soul and spirit. Thank you for sharing this fully equipped property with your guest.
Over the Easter Weekend we stayed at Firepit@Clarens in the Clarens Golf Estate.
The house was very clean and neat and it has ample parking.
The house is newly renovated because it use to be two separate units and unfortunately it still feels like two separate units.
We had a very enjoyable stay but we just want to bring a couple of things to the host’s attention.
Habitat is in walking distance to Clarens Center, which is a "safe" town.
The accommodation is really nice and has all what is needed for a self catering accom.
Beds are comfy and there was absolutely nothing to complain.
This place is highly recommendable!!
