FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, the Big Easy is the beating heart of the Deep South.

Dance down Bourbon Street, where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars mixed with more colorful nightlife and entertainment venues. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by St. Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD (downtown) skyscrapers and the Louisiana Superdome. Booking.com has several hotels nearby, including some on Canal Street, where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou.

New Orleans is on its knees with drug addicts everywhere.

New Orleans is on its knees with drug addicts everywhere. Bourbon Street used to be so much fun but now it is like walking through a scene from The Walking Dead as it is full of crack heads and people openly jacking up in the street. You have to go looking elsewhere for the good music venues and they are expensive. Most of the restaurants are very average quality, no healthy options and very over priced. The French quarter where we were staying was particularly unsafe walking around at night. The Garden district is a nice area to walk around during the day. The French market was interesting but really not very good quality products so ok for a visit but not to buy anything. A week was way too long to stay there and we couldn't wait to get out of there it was that unsafe.

    Amazing place. Great scenery.

Amazing place. Great scenery. Loves walking around and seeing the activities that could be done along with the culture along with the amazing and beautiful buildings. Of course you do have to have deep pockets to do a lot of things but I’m sure you can find things that are still fun and great in cheaper ways.

New Orleans is a vibrant fusion of cultures and histories.

New Orleans is a vibrant fusion of cultures and histories. It has something to offer everyone. From jazz music to plantation and swamp tours. It has it all. The food, beer and wine on offer is fantastic. The most moving aspect of our NOLA visit was the slavery history. New Orleans appears to confront this subject in an informative and sensitive manner. It left me with a sense of shock and sadness but a desire to learn and understand more. There are areas of Downtown New Orleans to avoid as they are unsafe, dirty and sleazy. The famous Bourbon Street, for example, should more accurately now be changed to the infamous Bourbon Street. That said, Frenchmen Street is a great antidote.

NOLA is a beautiful city with limitless potential.

NOLA is a beautiful city with limitless potential. The local talent is all over and the sound is so unique. I dont drink so I really enjoyed the coffee and sweets on decatur and on bourbon street. I enjoyed the bayou tour as well. I wanted to stay another morning or two just to get sweets and drink coffee while taking in the local talent. However my wife wanted to go. The smell of urine is overwhelming when entering french quaters from the homeless situation as well as when departing to get back to hotel. The homeless are right out front of 4 and 5 star hotels as well.

Find food and things to do away from Canal and Bourbon...

Find food and things to do away from Canal and Bourbon Street. The prices are ridiculous since it's a tourist area. There is so much more to New Orleans. We enjoyed Bianka Lounge, the Bee Spot restaurant (get there as early as possible), and swamp tours too! Cafe Beignet is over rated and if you've had a funnel cake then check this place off your bucket list without the visit. On another note Voodoo chicken (spicy) and Willie's Chicken were good!

The city is a little overrated with what they offer.

The city is a little overrated with what they offer. We did the hop on hop off bus tour but nothing that "wowed" us and nowhere to really hop off to see anything. We ate at local eateries Mulate's and Mother's and found the food expensive but average. We rode both the green trolley and red trolley but again no "wow" factor. We tried to do the steam boat cruise but it's closed on Sundays. For a major tourist city we didn't understand this and it was disappointing. The casino was hopping as well as Bourbon Street. If you love to party and spend lots of money on food and drinks, this is your spot!

The style of the house was exquisite, clean and very authentic for New Orleans. The price is amazing for the accommodation. The House Lady was incredibly inviting and friendly. Great location to visit everything in the NOLA area. Our first visit to the USA for a 14 day road trip (New Orleans-Atlanta-Nashville-Memphis- New Orleans) and this was by far the best hotel we stayed in out of the 6 hotels, and probably the cheapest.

Well maintained, clean and comfortable house in a great location, close enough to the city's main attractions in the French Quarter (all within walking distance) yet very peaceful and quiet with some nice neighbourhood cafés in the area. Check in process with the host was swift and easy. Highly recommended in New Orleans
