It looked a little rundown from what I remember a few years back. There were several store fronts that were empty and for sale or lease. I am a lifelong Michigander and Mackinaw City was always the door to Mackinac Island for us. “Real tourists” would be very disappointed in the city.
We ate at two restaurants in Mackinaw City. The Dixie saloon had flies everywhere and it looked dirty. The waitress was the most rude, inattentive waitress I think I’ve ever had in my life. She very clearly did not want to be there. The other restaurant was Nonna Lisa. That was very nice. Good service and food and it was clean.
We stayed on Mackinac Island, and that was lovely.

There is a lot to do for a variety of interests in the Mackinac/Mackinaw City area - outdoor activities and recreation, historical and cultural sites, shopping, lots of dining options. There are activities for all ages, from the youngest of children to seniors. Mackinaw is a good home base for visiting attractions in the Upper and Lower Peninsula.

Always nice. But now it starting to get a little bit un kept .the sidewalks are not kept up as well as they use to be kept. Neither are the flower beds .Or the store areas it's like no one has Pride in Mackinaw city like they use to years ago. Everyone use to keep everything so Beautiful and so well kept. Let's so our Pride in our Beautiful Mackinaw city and our Amazing Mackinaw Bridge and make it Beautiful Again.

Look, it's no different than any other tourist trap.
Look, it's no different than any other tourist trap. I found the "downtown" area over crowded, the restaurants kind of dirty and unkempt, and attitude of many of the establishment owners was pretty much like any other tourist trap: Buy our stuff and move on.
Mackinack Island is SO overcrowded. They dump them off, go get more, dump them off, on and on. It was truly overwhelming as to the number of people, dogs, children, etc, etc..it was not pleasant. We only lasted two hours and returned to the city.

The staff are so friendly. The rooms are beautiful and clean. Beds are comfortable and we enjoyed our balcony overlooking the park and bridge. We love the hottub and pool. We make an annual trip to Mackinaw City every year and we always stay at Parkside Inn.
Old, outdated rooms and bathrooms! Dark room, loud AC. Patio not really inviting to sit on. Super close to downtown- that the one advantage of the hotel.
