I was very surprised when visiting the Iowa State U campus how nice it was. The school seems to be great. In talking to people at our hotel and places we ate it is a very educated place and not just some AG campus. The food we had was great too. It was super clean and safe too.

Drive to Reiman gardens fine.
Drive to Reiman gardens fine.
Finding a restaurant was difficult. We got back on I-35 S. Got off at the next town on the right. Ate at a Mexican restaurant.
Found there was no on ramp to return to Ames and had to ask for directions.

The city of Ames has a lot of great small shops and restaurants to visit. The Main Street shops are a lot of fun to explore. The ISU campus was really cool to drive and walk around. I was up there during move in week so the fraternities and sororities were partying. It was cool to see campus spring to live. I'm a big beer lover, but there are only two breweries in the Ames area: Torrent and Alluvial. Both are pretty good, but the Alluvial property on the outskirts of town is very pretty. Definitely worth checking it out. The Reiman Gardens right next to Jack Trice stadium was a great place to walk a round for a while. It's pretty. There are better botanical gardens in other cities, but not a bad place to see if you have some time to kill. Also, try Great Plains Sauce & Dough Co. They have been a staple on Main Street for years and the pizza is really good. There is a nice disc golf course near the campus as well.

Small but beautiful town.
Small but beautiful town. Main area of attraction is Iowa state university. Whole town is built around this university. People are kind of nice but have some sort of attitude. Most restaurant I got, when I pay, I give my credit card in hand to them and after they charge, they put my credit card down on desk rather than giving me on hand like How I handed it over. Not sure why everyone do that but that not perceived as good manner. Some folks do greet nice but some has that bad face as it like we are not invited. Not sure why.

The location was great, but the room I was put in literally stunk. It smelled of dirt, sweat, and kind-of like mold. The pool was disgusting. The carpets were dirty. I can’t emphasize enough about how bad tge room smelled. I literally did not shed the residual odor until I showered at another hotel on my trip. When I checked out and brought these issued to the “clerk” I was told she had told the manager before about all the issues I mentioned but nothing was done. She actually said that the carpets in all the rooms were filthy. The pool was disgusting (light green color) and the “breakfast” was a joke. I stayed at this hotel several years ago and it was wonderful, but this trip has shown me that it’s mismanaged and I’ll never stay there again. For about the same price (2 rooms with pets) I stayed in another hotel I would rate with 4 stars in Des Moines, and it was the best room out of three in this trip. This place is literally a dump.

Ames was super cute!
Ames was super cute! I travel a lot to college towns for work and this was one of my favorites. There's a can't miss wine bar, a bunch of cute shops downtown, and you can't beat the midwest for value and hospitality.

Snack and beverage availability was great- 24hr access. The basement common room/game room was cozy with a nice selection of board games. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with good service.
The price was good. We did use the hot tub, which was nice.
The breakfast was okay. It was a fairly slim selection compared to what we have had at other hotels, but it served the purpose.
I have no complains about the hotel and facilities except the breakfast options could have more choices since I stayed for 5 nights. It gets boring after the 3rd breakfast.
