Maintaining the Warmth
One can get a little nostalgic when talking about the development of Hua Hin. The first beachside resort town in Thailand was originally a small fishing village. It manages to maintain a laid-back atmosphere despite chain hotels invading the best vantage points along Hua Hin Beach.
The current King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, spends much of his time here in the royal residence of Klai Kangwon Palace, built in 1927. The local Thai population have followed ever since as they escape the stifling heat of Bangkok.
Hin Lek Fai Hill provides the finest outlook of the bay and its 5 km-long stretch of beach. The central Hua Hin Night Market satisfies your wallet and your stomach with its mix of local souvenirs and freshly cooked seafood.
These days there is a distinctive cosmopolitan flair to the city with many restaurants and hotels purveying a European influence. It is also less hectic than Pattaya, the rival beach resort on the other side of the Bay of Thailand.
Hua Hin Airport has flights from Bangkok, and the wooden Thai-style train station is regarded as the prettiest in Thailand. The city has many hotels and resorts for families and couples and Booking.com can also accommodate you at the famous Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas.

I like the urban environment behind the beach. People are friendly and honest. There is a nice laid back atmosphere. It's actually quite a large place. After a week I am discovering still I have not seen. There's lots of food and entertainment choices and prices are cheaper than Bangkok. A great place to spend 2-3 days. Once the main road from Bangkok is completed, it will be much more attractive and appealing to be able to exit the Capital. Current road infrstructure is not great. When visitng Hua Hin, I highly recommend a visit to The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand Rescue Centre & Elephant Refuge. This centre, 45km northwest of Hua Hin, cares for over 700 animals, including bears, tigers, gibbons, macaques, loris and birds. There's also an affiliated elephant-rescue programme where the elephants live chain-free. Its an amzing sanctuary and great to be able to tour around it and support its funding.

I like this city and always happy to back there for shorter or longer time with my family. For those who are there 1st time it will be easy to operate around. Atmosphere is LOT MORE gentle than on Pattaya as well as much more "family friendly".

Nice, relaxed place with good enough shopping (but prices may be higher than Bangkok). Food choices were great (eating at the Mall "food courts" seem like a better option). The Night Market also had good food but tourist prices. Beaches were quiet but not as good as Phuket. Using a rented bike around was good.

The place was nothing like what we booked.
The place was nothing like what we booked. We reserved a pool view unit with a living area and separate bedroom. Instead we were given a room facing outside to a construction site and the very noisy night market with a band that played loud music into the night. Towels were the cheapest possible nylon and quite dreadful, so very difficult to dry. The washing machine was filthy and unusable. And although we didn't need it, the sofa-bed there was actually just a mini chaise-lounge. We were glad to get out of there, to be honest. I suspect they swapped the room from what we booked to a worse one. Kate - the manager - was basically non-contactable once we asked about the room.
