Hotel Sao Jose, hotel in Porto

Situated in the heart of Porto’s old town, a 5-minute walk from City Market Bolhao, this hotel offers free Wi-Fi and a central location beside the shopping street Rua Santa Catarina.

The place is OK, it is an old hotel and you can see that in the room, but everything works, so it's more the case of aesthetics. Windows could have better noise insulation because you can hear the street noise even if they're closed. Rooms are cleaned every day, the staff is friendly and helpful, breakfast is basic but for the price you pay it's fine. Overall it's a budget hotel so don't expect luxuries.

The breakfast is really good there's everything you could think of! Sweet and savory, cold and hot beverage, fruits, meat, lots of breads... Everything. The room was a bit dirty in my opinion because I saw a lot of dust in the closest... And also on the tables

It is a tourist magnet, but it is still possible to avoid the crowds. We found a local cafe/restaurant doing great Portuguese food (soup, sardines) and very inexpensive. Just get away from the most popular areas.

Although very hilly in parts Porto is a very walkable city. We were able to visit all the places we had on our prepared list and after doing the walking tour we added more. We did not use any public transport to get around at all other than to use the hop on off bus the first day. We did 2 full day tours to Braga and Guimaraes, and of course the Douro valley wineries, both were excellent.

Beautiful city with lots to see, do and eat! If you love the arts and culture then this city has these in spades. We booked a free walking via visitor tour to help us orientate. Burgers from Curb were delicious! Also had a traditional meal at Francesinhas al Forno da baixa.

The historical buildings were nice only downside lots of building going on with new metro lines and tunnels so you couldn’t see lots of the city without a metal hoarding in view but this is progress so you have to deal with it

Porto is a must for anyone’s bucket list.

Porto is a must for anyone’s bucket list. It has charm and character with a unique quality. The old town, the river and the history of its wine and port trade make it stand out from many other destinations. My only gripe was that a visit in August meant that we had to deal with too many visitors which clogged up the more popular sites: ideally late June/early July or mid September would have been preferable.

The location was great and staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was not nearly as good as what we’ve had at other hotels in Spain and Portugal. The ‘windows’ were covered with a plastic film, for privacy, I assume , but only opened from the top a small amount, so you could not see out, tho they opened into an air shaft that transmitted noise from other rooms, and you couldn’t see what the weather was like. It made the rooms feel dark.

Beautifully renovated and designed hotel with high quality finishes right in the old town with all the entertainment and facilities at your doorstep. Staff were friendly and helpful (as everywhere in Portugal). Breakfast was good quality. Beds where very comfortable. I had indicated that the (standard) rooms were really small for 2 people with large suitcases and the hotel manager kindly offered us a slightly larger room.

The two of us came to discover Portugal for the first time for a week. We loved everything about the hotel. In fact, it is located in the heart of the old town. The room was big enough and comfortable. In particular, we would like to thank António, who gave us recommendations for exploring Porto and its surroundings. Our 1 week vacation felt like 2 weeks because we saw so much and every day was full of surprises.

We were looking for a good value hotel for our last night in Portugal and Pao de Acucar was ideal for this. Location was great, near the main train station with good metro and bus connections. Easy to walk down to the river. Room was bigger than we were expecting and the shower was great. The receptionist who greeted us was very helpful and spoke excellent English.

The location is perfect and the receptionists were very helpful. Check in was done within 5 minutes, a lot quicker than the other hotels I stayed in Portugal, and they allowed us to check in an hour earlier which was a plus.
