Food, Fado and Fun in Lisbon

Facing the Tagus River and built on seven hills, charming Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. It offers unique tram rides, intimate Fado performances, great dining venues and much more.

The city is famous for its districts: the Belém's famous monuments; the Alfama's labyrinthine streets, bars and small shops; and the trendy Alcântara's docks. Lisbon’s most popular nightlife and shopping venues are located in Bairro Alto, while the traditional heart of the city beats rhythmically in the Baixa.

Enjoy a walk in the greenery of Jardim Botânico, admire the architecture of the Jerónimos Monastery or explore Feira da Ladra flea market. The Chiado area serves the city's best traditional Portuguese food. No meal is complete without some famous pastéis de nata!

Getting to the city centre is only a metro or bus ride from Lisbon Portela Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel, a friendly guesthouse or a cosy apartment, Booking.com has plenty of accommodations for your holiday in Lisbon.

A very friendly city with much to offer.

A very friendly city with much to offer. Great food, historical sites and beautiful views! We loved every aspect of Lisbon from the wide selection of traditional foods, taking in a dinner with Fado music to seeing all the rich historical sites that are easily accessible. Getting around is quite easy with an extensive tram line, subway system and elevators to handle some of the hills. A couple of our favorite sites were visiting Belam with its tributes to the explorers as well as the home of the Pasteis de Nata! Sintra is an easy train ride and is a magical location with castles and a quaint town area. We took in a Fado performance at Povo on the famous Pink Street and its colorful umbrella canopy! A few other visits were to the Castelo Sao Jorge (historical and great views), National Tile Museum and Time Out Market (indoor food hall with a tons of local offerings). We will definitely return here to absorb more of the wonderful culture and things to do.

Loved Lisbon and would have enjoyed a few more days than our quick 3 day visit. Did a walking tour on first day which was great overview. Lots of hills so be prepared! Also narrow walk ways and very slippery footpaths due to well worn, though lovely, tiled paths. Lovely mix of lively, yet old world charm 😌 Our hotel was right on the classic tram line but it was always so full (August) we ended up walking everywhere except for last day as determined to get a ride on it! Mercado da Ribeira was an amazing spot for food and drink and if near Sao Vicente Brunch&More well worth a stop in. Delicious food, lovely service add right on tram 28/12 route. Travel (when you can get on tram) is easily with a pre loaded ‘yellow’ travel card from one of the metro stations. Visited Cascais but very busy beach and chairs/umbrellas pricy so would want to get there early to make the most of it. Spoilt for beaches in Australia so not blown away by it but a cute town to stroll around with some lovely ceramic stores too.

fantastic city in all extents, places, streets , squares..

fantastic city in all extents, places, streets , squares.. Atmosphere in city is vibrant and alive. I felt very safe at all times ( although lot of local warned us to watch about pickpockets..I did not see not a single incident in 10 days of intensive street life) Food choice is just stunning , people working in bars and restaurants were all very friendly and you can actually feel the hospitality lives in Lisbon. The cultural offer is fantastic , and so is the architecture , form old city to Parque de Nascoes, and LX factory to Bellem and MAAT museum. In short , the very very impressive and friendly city.

    Great city really nice people.

Great city really nice people. It is the best when wallking, keep in mind travelling with children (infant) is not always easy, a lot of the time lifts dont work, really steep en bumpy roads. Halal food is difficult to find as there are according to me not a lot of muslim tourist they dont advertise with halal on their menu or website, so you often have to ask yourself if the food is halal. But overal the food especially the fish is amazing.

Our flight was cancelled and we had to book a hotel in Lisbon overnight- couldn’t have stayed in a better place! The staff were so lovely and warm, the bed was extremely comfortable for our aching bodies, and we were chuffed with the slippers and bathrobes! After an exhausting day sorting out new flights and accommodation, we got the best night’s sleep ever thanks to the lovely bed! The location is fab, very central and we were able to potter around Lisbon to see the sights while waiting to go to the airport. Would definitely recommend.

Close to the metro and airport links. Once you get to grips with the metro and in particular the bus service getting around was great fun. Some good bars and restaurants nearby and a lot cheaper than the city centre. Good size room and great shower, lifts might be a problem if the hotel was full, but for our stay it was fine. This is my 4th visit to the city and by far the best hotel so far, but not really 5 star quality but for the price an excellent hotel and no where near 5 star prices.

Beautiful design & decor. One of the best bars architecturally speaking. Rocco, a 5 star restaurant on the premises & wonderful full breakfast in the morning. Valet parking was a plus. Centrally located to good restaurants, shopping & sights within walking distance. This hotel is stunning in an elegant, whimsical 'British Khaki' sort of way.

Location is great. The hotel is in a quiet zone of Lisbon but 5/10 minutes on foot from the center. You also have luxury shops all around you. If you do not want to do breakfast in the hotel, around the corner there is a cafe where I had the best croissant I have had in a very long time.
