With a long and rich history, Lagos is nowadays a famous beach resort of the sunny Portuguese region of Algarve. Including wide sandy beaches and quiet coves enclosed by ochre cliffs, it also offers a lively city centre with one of the best mixes between history and modernity in the region.
King Henry the Navigator chose it as a base for his trips of discovery during the 15th century, and later on, it became the residence of the Algarve governors. The Old Town is circled by medieval walls, typical narrow streets, historic buildings and charming squares. B&B’s and hotels in Lagos’s historic centre allow you to enjoy these picturesque surroundings.
Apart from being an important centre for sailing, the city has amazing beaches, like Meia Praia or Praia da Dona Ana. Resorts and hotels on Lagos’ beaches are the perfect choice for sun lovers, while the hotels near the modern Lagos Marina are popular, as they are both close to the centre and the railway station.
The city is 90 km from Faro Airport, and 24 km from Portimão. Check out the Lagos hotels deals on Booking.com before travelling!

For families and older travelers, Lagos is much nicer than Albufeira, which is full of kids in their early twenties. The beaches are the main draw, and the Old Town, although not particularly picturesque, has lots of restaurants and nightlife.

We had never been to Portugal so were not sure what to expect. We left loving Portugal and planning to go back again next year. Lagos is a beautiful town - bustling with plenty of restaurants/cafes but has a sense of ease and relaxation. The most beautiful beaches are within walking distance. The weather was perfect, hot but with an Atlantic breeze so the heat is never overpowering. The people of Lagos are so friendly and welcoming.

Lagos centered their marketing around surf, cool coffee shops, so if you like this aesthetic, you will like this little touristic town. If you are only searching for authenticity, you shouldnt go to Lagos but maybe to Aljeizer or around the west coast, the real surf paradise.

Lagos is a seaside town with lots to offer.
Lagos is a seaside town with lots to offer. Old town, winding streets, array of restaurants, marina, wide sandy beaches, coves. Great for swimming and canoeing. Lovely towns nearby to visit and Spalsh and Slide waterpark, very impressive.
The hotel is absolutely lovely, very clean. The location is perfect...roght near to some of the best restaurants in Lagos.Lots of room to chill out in various lounges, library or in the bar area if you need a break from the sun.
The pool.area is well maintained and has enough space and loungers for everyone to get a spot at some point in the day.
The breakfast is amazing!! One of the best selections at a hotel I've experienced. The staff overall are friendly and helpful.
The rooms are a little small but OK for a short stay.
This was the best BnB I have ever stayed in. The host went above and beyond to make her guests comfortable and provided information of Lagos and the surrounding area that was personalized to each guests interests. The breakfast each morning was amazing, healthy and better quality than you would find in any hotel. Location is very close to the downtown city. Garden and pool area is perfect for lounging. We couldn't have chose a better place for vacation, I only wish it was longer!
From the moment we arrived we were wowed with this hotel. The welcome was generous and warm, the staff were attentive and the surroundings were everything you'd expect from a boutique hotel.
The food was wonderful, and the Monkey Bar had a wide selection of drinks. I also enjoyed a few spa treatments which were carried out in a wonderfully relaxing space by excellent therapists - amongst the best massages I've ever had!
This small boutique hotel is fabulous, the staff so helpful and welcoming, we came from vale do lobo, a supposed 5 star resort to this little sanctuary which was far better! Daily housekeeping, fabulous breakfast, immaculate with great service, great location, 5 min walk to beach and 5 euro in a taxi to Lagos centre. Highly recommended and we will be back.
I've never felt so welcomed in an accommodation before, even at 5 stars hotels. Nadia does the absolute best in order to make every guest at home. She was so lovely, helpful, kind and generous. The hostel is simple but full with little treats and so much thought regarding every single thing. I highly recommend, and really enjoyed my stay.
