It's an older hotel but grand; and an amazing location. I had one of the rooms with a view and I couldn't believe how beautiful the view was. The lobby was such a nice place to sit and have a tea or drink in and watch the cars and buses go by the hairpin turns. Watching the sun go down on the fjord was spectacular. The walk down and back to the village gave you fabulous views of the hotel looking back on my way down, and getting closer on my way back up. It's like an old Victorian (but don't think it's that old) kind of hotel; with a formal dining room which had a delicious dinner.

It was a last-minute booking with late check-in, but nevertheless, everything was made ready for our arrival. The place was great and the price was very reasonable.

The location is amazing, simply exceptional. And its brand new, an absolutely dream of a destination. Doesn’t matter how you long you plan to stay there, you wish you could’ve stayed longer. It is equipped with everything you need. And most of all the owner is really kind.

This century home has a wonderful, warm atmosphere and country honesty that settles over you during your stay. It all flows from our host, Hege Kirsten, whose warm personality and intelligence makes Overvoll Farm unique.
The dinner she served was a gastronomical extravaganza! For me it was the best meal I had during our 2 week visit to Norway. All the salads and relishes were prepared with farm fresh ingredients and to my surprise, were raw. The salmon entre' was cooked perfectly. Hege Kirsten is a very accomplished cook and has put care, thought and research into her meals. We also enjoyed excellent conversation on a range of topics.
Scenically set by the Oppstrynsvatnet Fjord, the family-owned Hjelle Hotel rests in a lush garden surrounded by mountains. Jostedalsbreen National Park is 5 km away.

It's a beautiful fjord, but because of that also very touristy and busy. There'll be a cruise ship coming in every other day filled to the brim with people that will flood out the town and surrounding hiking trails.
I'd suggest a 1-2 day visit here to see the area and the nature and then maybe move a bit further in Mørre og Romsdal to experience the nature and surroundings without all the tourists.

It was nice to stay two nights in Geiranger.
It was nice to stay two nights in Geiranger. The natural beauty of the place was so calming for the soul. We booked a RIB tour of the fjord and a private 4 hour car hire to explore the hair pin turns and views of the fjord. We were lucky to have the day to ourselves without cruise ships in port. They crowds definitely take away from the peace and quiet and the sublime beauty of the place

IMO, a minimum of 3 days at Geiranger (incase if there are a day or two of rain/clouds). It is a place of nature and ideally the place is best enjoyed through hikes or kayaks or boats etc. There are trails of every difficulty levels and durations.

As the end of the Geiranger Fjord, the village is constantly under a constant flow of tourists coming with the huge cruise ships.
The village per se has nothing else special versus other Norwegian villages on any other fjord, but this constant movement of people from the ships gives it the opportunity to be super busy and even more expensive than the normal expensive Norway.

It is probably one of the nicest areas of Norway, and the Geiranger Fjords should be visited by everyone when in Norway.
Despite the distances involved, visitors should get out and about, driving cars there requires some skill and attention, but the roads are well maintained. (Watch out for hikers and bikers!).
A day trip to Alesund is also recommended!

Geiranger is one of the most attractive destinations in the world , the nature itself is a reward and what i suggest is that the concerned authorities can add more services here and there to meet the needs and the expectations of all tourists from all over the world , like more supermarkets , more shopping options etc

The view from the balcony was just perfect. Breakfast was adequate but not as good as other hotels we stayed in. On our last morning there was a power cut (in the whole area) I was disappointed that the hotel did not appear to have a generator or even a gas alternative to ensure that their guests were able to have a hot breakfast. When an under manager was told of this disappointment he indicated there was nothing they could do. I beg to differ. An alternative means of cooking should have been in place.
Because the smaller studios were not ready for the season yet we got upgraded to a regular cabin. The view from the cabin over the Geirangerfjord downhill was absolutely stunning. The cabin is well equiped, spacious and had a fridge with freezer and oven and stove. Excellent for self-catering. The staff was kind and helpful. All in all this was our best stay in Norway (so far - and I doubt any other accommodation will beat it).
Our stay was absolutely amazing from the start! We absolutely appreciated that the hotel picked us up from the port (in a Porsche) and drove us to the hotel and then brought us back into town and gave us recommendations and dropped us off at the top of the waterfall, also near the Union Hotel, so my parents could see the car museum. The dinner was amazing and the views were spectacular!!!!
Premium cottage, Cabin 10, lovely view from the window. Cabin newly redone with very nice kitchen. Little table in front for having breakfast in front of fjord. Would not imagine a better place to be in Geiranger, definitely not a big hotel!
You can walk to a very nice restaurant in Grande hotel, 2 minutes walk
The tipi was really Nice and provided with bed linen and towel, the emplacement has a Nice view but you have to take the car to geiranger ( i dont know if there is a bus) and the light is still here at night in norway dont forget about that it's like a tent!
